i got mine from micro-mark few months ago
[quote user="mononguy63"] I think it would be very engaging to have somebody, be it a staffer or contributor, to chronicle a new layout with a page or two each month. Not a 4x8 or staff project layout that takes 3 issues to cover start to finish. I'm talking about a full-fledged home layout, covering the full developmental life, including research, space preparation, track planning, construction, scenery, everything through operations. The whole nine yards. It would be fun reading about
Are they full length 85' passenger cars? The turnouts are probably #4"s. A combination of long car coupled to short tender backing through a #4 turnout will cause problems. Does the tender derail if it goes through the turnout without any cars coupled to it? Are the turnouts layed flat and level? Check for kinks in the trackwork.
These are all reasons I don't and never will use Ebay.
I would like to see more in-depth articals. Instead of 10-12 very short articals, go with 6 short and 3 long detailed articals. I will not get into the era debate. We all want to see more about our own era or scale. Keep a nice balance. I said this in another post, getrid of the "captioned" photo artical. I get really tired of them. There is no detail to it. More layout progress info on some of your regular contributator authers would be nice. When reading about a layout and you discribe
Sounds like you already have the Fast Track jigs. That is the most expensive part of the whole thing. Go to a swap meet, buy some cheap track (brass would work) and practice with the fast tracks untill you get good at it. Doesn't look too hard. Do you have the full kit or just the jigs. I am looking into investing in the fast tracks system. The point forming tool looks like a real time saver. The only thing stopping me is the cost of entry. With micro engineering turnouts, you can buy 2 or 3
Drove past the shop a couple of times today and he wasn't open. What are the hours that he is open?
I've hit that jackpot before. Trains, MR, MRC, Classic Trains all on the same day. Don't know what to read first. Haven't been to the post office to pick up the mail today. Looking forward to tomorrow! Might be a little early though.
I miss the in depth articles they used to run. The "captioned photo" articles just don't hold my intrest. Also, please eliminate the cartoon people in the layout pieces, they are a distraction.
I had heard that Buzz was thinking about reopening the shop. Good to hear that he did. I will have to stop in sometime. I don't get to that part of town very often...now I will have to make it a point to go that way. Nice to have him back. his was {and hopefully will be again} the best hobby shop around!!!
