Heard a rumor that one or two of the Zephyr trains were purchased and moved to the Middle East some time ago. Wonder if that is true and if so, where and who has them? Are they being used?
Hey Mark, great to see you back! Thanks for the great info. Sounds like of all things we are doing over there, we have a good start to getting this working again.
Thanks, have read those. Just wonder if there are any further developments for the rail service that was destroyed in the last war that might have more current information. Didn't know if any of our "retraining" efforts being performed by the US military has included rebuilding the rail system.
Curious to know if any of the railroad system that was in Iraq has been restored and back operating again? Who rebuilt it and do we know of any cost figures? Is there any passenger service?
Sure wish we at Creston could have offered more so that route would be down the "main line"! Thanks for the great photos!
Snow is all but over. BNSF now running "snow coaches" out of Creston both east and west to carry relief crews out to trains that are going dead. Roads not in great shape and will be a while until van service will run crews over the road. Traffic almost back to normal.
Both BNSF main lines are now open and operating again. Amtrak #6 came through at 8:25am with no problems. The "Z" train was carefully guarded by BNSF police forces for it's entire stay just west of the derailment location. Now the fun thing will be the 5 to 8 inches of snow that is to fall on the area of the derailment.
Latest update is that one main will be opened at approx. 2100 as crews are being ordered out of Creston at 1900 to travel to area and reboard "tied down" trains. Going to be a BIG payday for Hulcher!
BNSF has a derailment this morning at approx. 0025 on main line between Halpin and Melrose. According to crew reports, train encountered a broken rail that put 21 cars on the ground fouling both mains. "Hulcher" salvage crews were encountered on Hwy 34 five miles east of Osceola at 0930 this morning by crew shuttle van carrying crew members from four trains that were "tied down" back to Creston. BNSF police were on scene to provide securtiy for "Z" intermodal train that
The depot was purchased by the City back in 1970 and was remodeled into the City Hall. It also houses the Senior Citizens food center where our Seniors can go and get a meal, play cards and converse with one another. The old waiting room is home to a ho model railroad which operates weekly. The "waycar" was donated to the city by a citizen and is only for exterior display. There were plans to "develop" the old roundhouse/turntable site into a downtown park but that has fallen
