Hello, I would like to know if I buy an old Lionel HO boxcar will it run smoothly on our modern code 100 flextracks. Thank you Serge
Lionel HO that was made by Lionel between 1959 and 1966 has wheelsets that are 0.03" too narrow in gauge. They have problems with switches. Pre-1959 (Rivarossi and Athearn) and 1973 - 1977 Lionel HO will run OK. Lionel HO cars can be retrucked to get better rolling qualities.
Some additions to the list: The first generation rapid transit cars from Washington DC, Baltimore, Atlanta, etc. The "lozenge" commuter car, originally used in Toronto. Modern tank cars of various sizes and shapes, to go along with the vintage tank cars at IRM. CTA L cars of the 1970s and 1980s will end up in museum collections. Likewise Metra F40PH units. Though the Metra F40PH may remain in service as long as the E and F units they replaced.
I've been wondering this for awhile now. I know the steam engines have came and gone, but what do you think in model railroading? I was thinking will the younger age people will keep the steam going in the near future or will they focus on the newer era. I model 80s - now, and thats due to I don't know much about the steam era. Also because thats what I grew up around. I guess thou that some people will choose to do steam rather than new cars/engines/etc
What other stories do you think you will never see in any trains magazine?
Thanks for the answers. The insulated joiners have solved the buzzing coming from the switches, but I am still curious about the transformer. The question still stands regarding the inability for it to be truly off.
The other question relates to the transformer. It looks like a 70's era, probably low end train set model 4851 Trainmaster. It works, trains run, it seems to shut down just fine, in terms of short protection, but
What do you think O and S ga will look like in the future say 40, 50 or even 100 years in the future. The compies making them and the sales will look for genartions from now? Maby they'll fly!
First, I'd like to go 20 years out into the future, to 2029. To a casual observer, O and S hi-rail will look the same as they do today. But to a collector or operator, they'll be different. Electronics will be more compact and the marketplace will
Fred Frailey mentions in his August entry that the public's sense of detachment from the big class one railroads is bordering on turning to hostility. Do you think this is true? and if so do you think that the railroads should be doing something to try and change this? I'M interested in hearing as many opinions on this as possible, especially from some of the more hard boiled members (you know who you are)
Speaking as someone in Chicago, there
Here's a different idea for modelers who like to model "modern" operations but just can't give up their favorite steamer. Incorperate a museum/ institute such as this: http://www.mstrp.com/ . This is the website for the Steam Railroading Institue here in Owosso, Michigan. Yes regularly I hear the whistle of the Pere Marquette 1225 in the distance. This year there is over 9 different Loco's coming in for steam fest, an eclectic modelers inspiration
