What would happen if one were to impress a slightly higher constant DC voltage, say from a battery, to the uphill section? How would the transformer react?
Does anyone have a link to a disappearing train video? I recently viewed one, but can't find it now. Have been searching over an hour now. Thanks
I think that's why Bob likes the bridge rectifier method better.
Yes, I'm going to get one or two. With 6 can motors and some rubber tires, the K-line F3 ought to be able to climb a pretty steep grade.
Thanks, I'll be looking for those items.
As I mentally start my first (and hopefully last) multi-train layout, I thought about using a constant-voltage method for controlling train speed on grades. I like to run trains pretty slow, so I thought I could remove the track pins and electrically isolate the grades from the level mainline. Has anyone tried this?
Thanks so much, Bob. I'll be heading over to Radio Shack to pick up a bunch of those rectifiers. Looks like I'll also need some to get my 671, 681, and 2046 to smoke better. I just finished adding insulation, freeing up the pistons, and opening up clogged vent holes, but at the low speeds I run them they don't smoke much at all. In neutral with ~15 V on them for a few minutes they smoke real well for ~1 min after I reduce the KW to ~8 V for running-then nothing. Is there some other bridge
A new engine I bought has the True Blast II system. What do I need to make it work? My old KW amd ZW don't have a "Bell" button.
My recently acquired K-line F3 is supposed to be TMCC equiped, but all I have are a PW KW and a ZW transformer. What do I need to buy to enable the TMCC and to add Railsounds, if possible?
Thanks for the replies. I e-mailed Dean and he replied fast. Here's the story: I just bought this set (Lackawanna F3) on eBay (very good price, I think), and the seller said in his ad that there was some electrical problem with it, and it tripped the CB in his transformer. I first tried each car separately, and only the lead engine worked. After reading Dean's message that only the lead engine would operate by itself, I hooked all 3 units together and bingo, it runs fine. BTW, this set has
