Joseywales, you have done a fantastic job painting that beauty. Simply outstanding. Gotta love that tender deck, and one you put the lenses on the rear marker lamp slots, please post more pics!
My last table was down in my brother's basement, we built it together, stirdy as anything, but it seemed too high, I'm guessing around 5 ft high or so. It was a basic donut design, dimensions 9x12 ft. My brother said he wanted it that high so we could duck under fairly easily (this did turn out to be a plus), and he also wanted to be almost eye level with the trains when sitting on a stool encircled by the table. There was about 3 ft wide open space in the center of the donut for operations
Very nice, love that paint job.
Forgive me, I know we discussed this before but my thread was deleted as I was awaiting some answers. When I was at my LHS a few months ago, one of the owners there told me that the glossy version was for passenger service, but he said that back then, the ones that didn't have "enough shine" to them were used for pulling freight. Is he correct in this assumption? Does anybody on here actually use an HO Class J to pull freight, if you do, or don't, would it actually be prototypical
Yes, bright headlights are lacking in HO for the most part. BLI's paragon series had it down right, when they switched to blue line, the lights are much dimmer with a blue tint, of course it depends on the model. The J1 for example has a much better lighting system in the paragon version. The difference between both versions is very pronounced. Anybody can see it. The Bachmann spectrum K4 is an excellent model, I own the 1920's multistripe version, and as far as I'm concerned the detailing
Say if you have 2 or more ballasted tracks lined up next to each other and you want to fill in the bare wood spots with cinders, should you use the same texture size as your ballast, or should you go smaller? Right now my tracks are ballasting with WS medium size 50/50 cinders and light grey mix. The color and texture looks perfect. Now I want to fill in the spots between the tracks, should I go with WS fine size cinders or will this look out of place next to larger size ballast on the tracks?
My grandpa bought me my first train set when I was 5 years old. That was back in the late 80's. He bought a used lionel O27 hudson from the 50's I think, it said 'Lionel Lines' on the tender and the class lights had green jewels on them. I loved it. It also came with a caboose, a box car, and an empty coal coal. I don't remember what happened to it exactly, but I think my mom gave it away to Good Will when I was a teenager, as I didn't play with trains at that time. I will
The NKP berk the classification lights are mounted too far in. The J's indeed got used in freight service and some without the shrouding. The A's were made for the high speed service not on the mountain grades. Not as much power as the Y's still pull a punch. I'll have to dig find that article about the guy who made his GG1 pans motorized.
If I were to buy another MTH Class J, is there a particular version or number that I should get in order
Just saw this excellent movie for the first time in probably about 10 years. I love Gomez's train layout. Does anybody remember that scene? The lionel trains at that time, I wasn't aware they had such good sound or could smoke so well. I wish I could find a clip of it. He was running a NYC hudson, smoked like a beast, and pulled along 3 20th century limited cars (15" I think). I found this official layout plan on a website dedicated to the Addams Family. It looks really cool. I'm
On my last layout, I used WS glue over the ballast, it made the ballast rock hard solid, which is fine for me, but when the trains went over it, you could hear lots of noise over the tracks, which took away realism. I assume the noise is due to WS glue, however, this will be the only type I will use. I've tried a few drops of dish detergent mixed with water...Elmer's glue mixed with water, but I prefer WS, its easier for me and works well. After it dries, would it be a good idea to take a
