I've discovered over the weekend that my track needs to be cleaned, only after about an hour of running trains this past week and after cleaning about 5 feet of track with a pencil eraser, I'm wondering about purchasing a track cleaning car, but wondered if they beat good ole' elbow grease and patience (which I have little of when I can't run the train!) Does anybody have any opinions on if they are worth purchasing and if so, which one is a preferred model? I'm modeling HO scale
I've got a question that, I suspect, will be darn near impossible to diagnose here, but you guys have never ceased to amaze me so far, so here goes... I bought an Atlas Master Series Gold SDP35 Low Nose w/DCC & QSI off of Ebay about 6 weeks ago. As some of you may be aware of my progress on my layout from past postings, I just now got track laid temporarily last week in order to run the train, so I've only got about 1-2 hrs on the thing. A couple of days ago, it started having trouble
So, uh, can I get something like that on my 8X8 layout?
Well, let's see some progress shots!
OK, here is the update, but don't get too excited. Haven't done anything in about a week and a half. But, at least the track is down enough for me to run the trains for a while. I've marked the tracks and will be pulling it back up, laying roadbed, then laying the track for good...can't wait! Overall shot... Right side mountain done... Still deciding on what to do with these bridges.... Where the town
Well, let's see some progress shots!
I'll try to post some, although, not much to report. I got all the plaster cloth layed down, pinned the tracks into place and have been running the train for the last couple of evenings, but I'm headed to Bristol in the morning for Sunday's race, so it'll be Monday before I can post anything. Y'all have a good weekend and GO TONY STEWART! Skip
The bridge is straight and still stands, at least according to Google Earth. Interestingly, the road bridge is curved, although I suspect the one in the old photograph had been replaced.
I tend to agree with CMLewis. It looks like the road bridge has been replaced over the years and is now curved and the trestle is no longer in action. It says that it has been converted to a bridge for a trail, presumably a walking trail, now. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms
you might want to consider a ballasted deck girder bridge.
Grampy, do you have a picture or a link to a "ballasted deck girder bridge"? I'm a newbie, so not sure what one is. Also, I've decided to go ahead and lay plaster cloth on all the track and attach it to nearby scenery so that I can get the track laid. I'm just doing the mainline, as suggested here, but I'll be back at a stopping part when I get to the bridge in front
Perhaps you could post a crude track plan, or picture of the overall layout, or area you are thinking about doing some work on. You will find some dedicated individuals here likely to have good advice.
I have already found some dedicated individuals on here...that's probably the only reason I am as far as I am NOW! I will post some this evening when I get home and get into the garage then let you guys work your magic. David Starr, that may part of my problem
OK...here are the pix, as previously promised... OVERALL TRACK PLAN (Rancocas Harbour Belt from the Atlas King Size Layout book)... BIRD'S EYE VIEW OF THE REAL LAYOUT... THE RIVER... (OR GORGE, I'M AFRAID, DUE TO SCALE DEPTH!)... TUNNEL IN BACK, RIGHT CORNER... TUNNEL PORTALS/RETAINING WALLS TEMPORARILY IN PLACE... CLOSE UP VIEW OF RIVER & WATERFALL. THE WATER WILL COME UNDER THE BRIDGE FROM OFF THE LAYOUT, GO OVER THE WATERFALL, UNDER 2 TRACKS THAT I WILL BUILD TO APPEAR LIKE A BRIDGE
NW, Thank you for the kind words. Anytime that somebody from this forum compliments my work, I must be doing something right! I just hope to obtain a fraction of the talent that is displayed on WPF each week. I agree with you about getting the trains running...I've been waiting on that since I built the table in January!! But, here's my thought process and I'm ready to hear from anybody that corrects me: Get the train running To do that, I have to get all wires done To do that, I have
