I have a seb dcc digitrax system. I wish to turn off power to individual staging tracks. all my searches have turned up numerous confusing answers. My straightforward questions are: do i single gap the staging track or double gap? and which switch do i need to power the track after gapping. sp or dp,. thanks in advance bwchaney
my sound engines tend to not shut down and if i could turn off power to the staging track i would not have to mute the engines when they are not in use.
I thought for ease it would be easier to cut off the power to the track rather than mess with cv's. thanks to all for their replies. bwchaney
exactly; thanks nick and all
I guess the subject is self explaining. I am getting ready to start my ho layout and have read many books on multilevel design and staging yards. I had planned a 64 foot nolix to drop 16 inches to a staging yard on a bottom level with a auto reverse loop. By the way I am in dcc. I know mobilman has something like this. Other layouts in the database also have hidden staging just 4 to 5 inches below a long mainline run that looks totally unaccesible to me if their is a derailment under there. I guess
I had planned on a 2%grade down to my hidden staging tracks on the bottom level. But that is 64 feet of decline to get down 16 inches; 48 feet of nolix to get down 12 inches. That seems like a lot of trrack and benchwork just to get hidden staging. I don't feel comfortable sticking my hand in to fix derailments in less than 12 inches of space between levels. There is one other soluition and that is put my staging behind a backdrop on one of my 28 inch wide side tables. but then there is no access
I thank the community for its vigorous responses to my questions. I think I will get thev 30 inch radius wood helix from ashlin and attach a 2% incline set from WS to the end of it. That will get me a 15 inch drop over a total of 21 to 23 feet the length of one of my side tables. From there I can either put in 2 staging yards or one staging yard and one 25 to 30 foot sceniced second shelf.. From there I can proceed up the incline and the helix to the main level. Thanks all for your suggestions and
Thanks for the input so far. I may now just decide to use the second level for a staging yard. For anyone else that has a lower level staging yard how much below the main level is it and how did you acheive the drop. Thanks in advance Brian
I am trying to decide on either a helix or nolix for going down to a second level for both staging and actual two level construction. My layout will be two 22 foot tables 24 inches wide connected to a 9 foot table on the end. Actually simply put i have a 9 by 24 foot room available. I model ho and will be placing the helix if that is what i decide on at one end of a 22 foot leg. Is a drop of 11 inches satisfactory for a multilevel operation. I know it is for a staging yard. The commercial helixes
Essentially as i understand it you are using a no-lix then to go down to your staging yard. If so I am planning on using ws 2% incline set to get me down to 12 inches for my staging yard. Are you using any special plan for your upper level such as 2 inch foam or plywood top. I am so interested in your progress as you have not posted for about a week. You can e-mail me if you dont want to reply on the forum. Brian
