Hi All, I've heard that if you want to remove decals from a locomotive or other rolling stock without damaging the underlying paint, you can take an eraser and simply rub them off. Is this true, and if so, does it matter what kind of eraser (hard, soft?) Also, is this maybe more for older Athearn BB rolling stock or can it be used on modern RTR rolling stock as well? Thanks in advance, Peter.
Has Athearn ever done a production run of the General Electric P42 (in HO) decorated for VIA Rail or am i just dreaming in technicolor?
This is the first i've heard of the GE's, but GMD is building some SD70Ace's for them (7 or 8 i believe) which will be delivered December of this year.
Could someone out there please advise the preferred printer for making decals? I believe that this issue is finding a printer that will print white. I have heard that there may be a Kodak product that can do so. The only other product I recall is the long not available Alps device. Many thanks.
Please refer to 49CFR Part 231.9 (Tank cars without end sills). Side safety rails are included under the umbrella of 'Saftey Appliances' as prescribed by the Code of Federal Regulations. Constructed of 1-1/4" pipe (hollow) with 3/8" x 2" widely spaced support brackets they would offer little in the way of crash protection against an incoming vehicle.
Just two things to add: Beaulieu: thanks for correcting the info. Carl: You are right, MS is not transported in tankcars with electric heating equipment (my previous post was misleading). Peter.
The term "molten sulfur" is actually somewhat deceiving. Yes, it is splash-loaded hot, but is allowed to cool while the car is in transit. Much of the sulfur heading for Florida comes from from the Alberta Oilsands, or other large oil refining centres. Molten Sulfur is actually one of the few commodities (transported in tankcars) that can be loaded to 286 GRL. Most other commodities (and pretty much anything regulated or pressurized) has a 263K limit imposed. Newer 286 cars have a capacity
Thank you all for your help. I had completely forgotten about that ATSF geep article in MR. Not exactly what i'm doing but really close. Pathfinder: Thanks for the photos! what an interesting model. I expecially like the extended rear sandbox. Also, nice job on the BC rail locomotive; i'd half considered building a chop-nosed RS18, but i think i'll wait until the Trueline Trains version comes out (i want one of the OSR ones). Once again, thanks all for your help. Peter.
Hi all, I'm interested in rebuilding an Atlas GP7 or GP9 so that it has a chopped nose (in HO). My first thought was to buy something from Canon and Co., but they only do the more modern Spartan cab kits, not the round-roof style as on the early geeps. I'm interested in modelling a CP rebuilt geep and i know i can get a Kaslo shell, but it's just the cab and nose that needs work, so i don't really need the whole shell. How difficult would it be to cut the short hood in half and fabricate
Has the Ohio Cental Steam website been taken down? Is there another source of information on the Ohio Central collection of steam? Many thanks in advance.
