Being chemically sensitive (migraines, wife's respiratory issues) I'd like to hear from similar folks (people who'll only use acrylic paints and other low odor materials) if the "lite" version of enviro-tex is truly "almost" odor free. I have no windows in my train room and can blow scents out the doorway with a box fan, but not for a whole/two day period for each pour. Been considering "magic water" brand for this reason, but still a long way's off.
I've got the cardstock/photo copied mock up done and it looks GREAT in it's proposed location! My wife actually came into the train room (mostly still just bench work) and literally jumped up and down and clapped her hands in delight!>P If anyone knows of prototype shots of the station's Milwaukee neighborhood or has a link for interior detailed versions please do post them? Thanks everyone. This thread got me off my butt and building the mock up and reinspiring the whole project!
Thanks guys!! I'll put it on my list of "friendly" chemical agents/products, then.
Train Buddy, It wasn't hard at all actually. Kind of like cutting out paper dolls. (good practice in case they ever haul me away;-) It REALLY helped a ton to be able to actually see it's size and height in 3D. I've never tackled a $200 list, kit before and it helped me to get familiar with the parts and up the courage quotient. My old approx. corrugated box cut out didn't tell me what I wanted to know. I have a learning disability that prevents me from reading maps upside down for
Sorry, can't seem to add this edit/addition: I'd love to see those interior detail results too! Just this afternoon I photocopied the parts/sprues onto cardstock so I can finally mock this building up to see if I have to saw it in half. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to find the room for the shed. Too bad, the iron work trusses are very nice. I'm also trying to find exterior street/immediate neighborhood photos if anyone knows of a source. I've got some post card
Hi guys. Thanks for the mention of the guy in the archives. I missed that thread when I did a search for this station on the OLD forum format. So...Magnus, do you have any pics since '07? Anyone else who could post pics of this station ON their layout so I can get a better idea of how it might look in various scenic scenarios that would be greatly appreciated.>PPP
If you have built and/or placed the Walther's Milwaukee Station on their layout, I would be most interested to see your results. (Even if you're still building). I have one and will either be kitbashing it or using it full sized. Any additional tips for it's construction would also be appreciated. I've seen one magazine article and there were warnings regarding the 3 separate roof sections being troublesome and some slight wall warpage. Thanks.
Thanks guys. Fred thanks for all the details. If anyone has other suggestions, feel free to post them. Are the crank pin screws a commonly found item? It's too bad that nothing is truly built to last ,with repair parts readily available like back in the '60s and earlier, always on hand from the manufacturers. It's motors, specific gears, spare driving rods, whatever you might find yourself needing. I had thought about Bachmann belt drive belts.
I try to make my track work "perfect" but all larger HO articulateds like Challengers, Big Boys, Cab Forwards, Yellowstones, etc. have tweaks that need doin' such as adding a bit of weight to pilot or trailing trucks, etc. Or just finding out that that folding deck piece is rubbing on something, when new. OR just new operators running against turnouts. Short of re-railers (which I'm actually considering in the yard (already plentiful on hidden track being laid) what do you all do
I'm looking for these (older) 60' shorty(s) in UP Armor Yellow and Gray if anyone happens across them in nice shape. Please PM me? I can only find them in train sets so far. They're nice cars and I'm constantly amazed that ALL of the manufacturers don't offer nice shorties considering the size of the average layout. I'd love to see Hornby release a few more road names.
