Bob, Based on the preceding, I think I need your advice again. As I mentioned on the 'Wiring 022 switches' thread, I'm about to wire up six switches at about 20 feet from the power source. Controllers will be 1 - 2 feet from the power source. I just bought some 4 conductor, 24 gage telephone wire. I just bought some straight 10" and 40", and some curved 031 'new' Lionel tubular, thinking that since it looked the same as the postwar, it would essentially be the same. I'd already concluded that I would avoid the current switches in favor of searching out used postwar, but I thought new tubular Lionel track was identical to the old Lionel2: isn't it odd how seemingly identical under the skin postwar
I'm getting somewhat confused. Picked up two new Lionel catalogs: one is for tinplate, mostly std gage, some O gage. The cover says "Lionel Electric Trains" and "Lionel Corporation Tinplate". It goes on to say that 'Lionel Electric Trains' and 'MTH' are working together under the 'Lionel Corporation' banner to produce these tinplate trains, which are copies of Prewar Lionel Tinplate. This suggests to me that 'Lionel Corporation' is a joint venture

Does anyone know in what quantities this stuff gets made? In the collectible scale replica car market they seem to tell you ahead of time that, if they get 125, orders for example, they will produce the model. Perhaps orders are held until they get enough to meet their minimum production run objectives, or until they run out of more lucrative work. Thanks again guys. It's almost crystal clear. The proof will be in the results of my actual wiring. Bob, you controller discussion explains why most of my existing installed switches have no wire on the center terminal; there is instead a collection of controller commons routed to the transformer common, which is much closer to the controllers than most of the switches and therefore requires much less wire. By the way, most of my 8 existing switches are wired with four conductor solid copper
