Luther, I found your reply very interesting, as I too have sort of the same predicament. Quick background: I use a TMC Z4000 strictly for power to my trains,a TPC 400 and Legacy. As I have only one Legacy controlled engine I had hoped to use the TPC 400 to run my conventiola trains.. I am using your wiring suggestions using a heavy duty DPDT switch. My question is that I have two isolated loops, how do I wire both of these loops into the system. My ideal situation would be to be able to mix the two
I think If you are using the Lionel KW you will need a Lionel 6-5906 Sound Activation button(about $15) to get the most out of your MTH with Proto Sound. Secondly, with regards to the battery. If you replace it with a J&W Battery 9 volt replacement, you will never have to charge your battery again. They are about $20, but well worth it. Ready to go when you start the engine. MTH is OK, but I really love my Legacy. Hope this helps. However, the MTH do pour out some smoke.
John, Thanks! I sort of tried that last night with the following wiring connections using a ZW transformer: Terminal 1 went to transformer terminal A Terminal 2 went to controller 96C Terminal 3 went to transformer terminal U and a seperate wire to the other pole on the controller (doesn't sound right but that's what the schematic looked like. Terminal 4 & Terminal 5 not hooked up because I was not using the automatic raising feature. It didn't work . I am getting power to the brdige
That is exactly what I'm trying to do. I will be using an LW not the Zw I had mentioned in my first post. I use the LW to power a three switches on that side of the layout close to the bridge. I use the variable for the switches and am trying to use the 14 volt for the bridge. If possible could you describe what wires go where. I'm 69 years old and hopefully not too forgetfull. I would have a 3 1/2 foot drop. This forum is amazing with answeres to my problems.
If you mean the manual that was packed with the transformer, I can send you a copy of one. I collect Lionel paper and I know I have one of these in my collection. Just send me your snail mail address to my private e mail site and I will send you one.
I purchased a Bascula Bridge #313 at York at the last meeting. It seems as if I am missing the "Special Lock-On". Doesn't anyone know what that is or how I can get one. I'm trying to wire directly to transformer. I will start and stop the train manually. I have a large tunnel right before the bridge(poor planning) and it will be difficult to put in an insulated track as the directions call for. The bridge looks great over my river and the light works on the top. Any suggestions
I just picked uo a copy of your new publication COMMAND CONTROL. It is great. I've had my Legacy system for over a year now and really never got a complete grasp on all the details and how they actually works. Thanks for doing the job that Lionel should have done when they published the owners manual for the Legacy. They redeemed themselves to a certain extent with their wedsite decicated to the Legacy, but in my opinion it isn't as concise as your book. Thanks again.
Yesterday at a local train show I bought a mint Pennyvania Mu Commuter car (6-18306) in perfect condition in the box with papers. It was never run since it was purchased in 1992. My question is should I oil and grease the cars before use or just put them on the track and let them go. I paid $160 which I hope is a good price if they work. Any suggestions
I am using Woodland Scenic risers with my Lionel O gauge tubular track. What is the best way to fastnen the track to the risers? I have covered all my risers with plaster cloth and on top of that I have put on the Woodland Scenic Roadbed using foam tack glue. What is a good technigue to secure the track to the roadbed? This is a big leap for me since the rest of my layout is flat. Again, thanks for all your help in advance. You have always come up with a solution.
When I took the soldering iron back to Radio Shack, I was told they put the wrong tip on it. They replaced the tip with the original one and it works fine. Is 100 watt too powerful for this job? I have a 40 watt for other soldering jobs.
