On my previous DC MR years ago I soldered bare, solid 20g wire to the rails and drilled tiny holes through the 1/4" plywood benchwork. The ends below were soldered to terminal strips and 18g wire to the power supply. Can this be done with my new nscale DCC MR? In other words the bare wire is in direct contact with the wood below the track.
Thanks all. I did a couple today with insulated 20g wire and it was fine.
Randy: I will check out those strippers. A bit of arthritis in my thumbs would be happier. Chuck: The wiring is fun for me. I try to make things as neat as possible even though I'm the only one who will ever see it. A MR of Japan - cool! I traveled a lot on the denshas there way back in 1969 when I was studying judo.
Digitrax advertising claims it is but Mike Polsgrove in his book "DCC Projects & Applications" states that: "the PM42 requires a Digitrax throttle." I have the Power Cab and an unopened PM42. I would like to use the PM42 as four circuit breakers for my N scale RR.
Thanks all. I was able to return the PM42 and exchange it for some other things. I will use the simple NCE CP6 circuit board for an easy solution to my sub-district problem.
My wife and I have just gotten the MR bug again after a layoff of fifteen or so years. We have settled on modelling the Rio Grande at the end of the steam era circa 1955. We can't seem to find plain old box car red 40' D&RGW box cars anywhere. Intermountain Railway used to make them but no one has them in stock. I'd redecorate some of my old cars but even the decals are non-existant. Surely all sources for this wonderful old fallen flag can't have dried up already.
I'm so new at this DCC thing that the paint hasn't dried behind my ears. I haven't even connected my NCE Power Cab to a test track yet. The brand new subject loco instructions are vague concerning whether or not I have to do anything to the DCC equipped engine before setting it on a programming track. I was under the impression that new locos with DCC innards are set up for DC and require some fussing before they can be used with DCC. This is a beautiful locomotive. I paid more for it
Great stuff! Thanks all. I forgot to mention that my very first layout was back in the late '50s in Lionel with my older brother. How's that for experiencing the whole spectrum of MRing? Best, SS
The last MR my wife and I made was about eighteen years ago. We want to make a new one in '50s D&RGW N scale and wish to limit it to a point-to-point setup with maybe a turnaround at each end. DCC is a completely new concept for us but it looks a lot easier to wire than the old DC block system. We still have most of the components left over from the previous layout. I have some basic questions: 1. Can we use the internal switches in our old Tortoise motors to reverse track polarity in a reversing
