Thanks too all who weighed in on this question, after reading these replies I think maybe just a rusted out Train bone yard might be better. I didn't want too model anything where people were injured or killed, that’s just the EMT in me. I didn't even like reading about the one where the cattle were maimed. I was looking for a way too use some of the crappy rail cars I have in my collection that will never see the tracks. The pics were cool, thanks, and Ken I love the one with the F-7? On
After watching an hour long special on train tragedies I got too wondering if anyone on this site has ever modeled train disasters. And are there any pics out there of such work? I've seen stuff like damaged box cars being hauled on flat bed cars but no real devastation along side the tracks, I'm thinking of doing a derailment scene so that I can put all my emergency vehicles too work? What do you think, is it a bad idea or in bad taste too model such a thing? Thanks in advance for any feed
Having one bad shoulder I decided too use my propane torch to melt the ice around the rubber and I didn't even set the car on fire!!!!
Well I finally had my first negative comment about my layout. The UPS guy stopped by to drop off a package and he said "It’s too small"; “you need to fill this whole room with this train stuff". Oh well, I can live with that kind of negativity...LOL! And for the record I have educated a few viewers about MRRing who even ask what I've been doing too the layout since they last seen it...so there...I wish I had a smiley icon sticking his toung out!!!
I like the idea of using boxcars for rehabilitation for my shoulder...LOL! We had two warm days in a row and the water was flowing like a river through my back yard, it is amazing how fast the white stuff can melt and turn into another problem all together. And when it refroze it forced a lot of things on my property to split open due too the wetness refreezing, my wifes planters bench split right in two because the water soaked into the frame of it and when it froze it was done for. My drive way
Well my friends, no sign of flowers too be seen up here in the "Frozen Hell" we call New England yet, I have the usual 6 feet of snow all over the place and these are not snow banks just the accumulations from the past few storms, I'm still trying to get too a warmer climate and I will never give up the fight until we do. I do have plans to finish the heat delivery system in the train room if we are here for another winter, the housing market is really bad right now and to sell it right
Ken that box car is used for my standards when I rework one, I bought a diet type scale that is used when people diet and it weighs the cars down to fractions of an ounce so that is how I'm weighing them. I love that box car and the first thing I need to do in the spring is get metal wheels and better couplers on all my best box trucks.
Hi Lou, Well I haven't been able too get anymore artistic cars done yet this winter but that might all change now that I'm laid up for a month with a shoulder problem that came up due to my work as an Emt. Happy to see you replied to my post, I do miss the brother hood here and I'm going to catch up now on some posts and check out the newest pics here. Thanks for thinking of me brother.
Greetings John Boy, Yup my train room is doing better than last winters catastrophe, at least the layout is dry and not under a mountain of ceiling debris. Well you can sign me up too the "Not going too DCC", can't afford to do that and I don't mind the DC, it is more traditional too me. Wow guess I really didn't miss that much! Thanks for the update.
Hello my brothers of the rails, I just wanted too check in and say HI and to let you all know that I'm still in the hobby and will be here more often when the good weather returns and I can play with my layout. I still have the passion for it and miss it very much, if I had finished the train room before winter set in I wouldn't have been away from it for so long but I did learn that I love this hobby because my interest only grew in the absence. Hope all are well, As Arnold S would say.
