howmus wrote the following post at 06-03-2008 5:57 PM: Most all the smells of a dairy farm: Cow Manure Freshly baled hay Smells from a dairy farm, ditto! Now I am blessed to live next to a dairy farm-- I can enjoy the smells, but no one is calling at three a.m. to say, "You're cows are out on the road!" To keep this somewhat mode rr related -- the smell of lichen! I do not use it nearly so much now, but the little I have bought and used (and smelled!) has taken me right back to being a teen model
Well that (posting photos) wasn't too bad at all -- now for the captions: the roundhouse is scratchbuilt and is based on the prototype at North Conway, NH -- the turntable is a manual Heljan model and operates by means of a string belt connected to a dial on my control panel. Not shown are the water tower and coaling tower that I scratchbuilt back when I was a teenager -- they survived over thirty years in storage and many moves and still look pretty good. Still to built will be a sand tower and
First attempt at uploading photos from Photobucket! See if it works.
Try this url -- (you'll have to cut and paste -- my mac OS doesn't seem to make clickable links) http://www.visi.com/~spookshow/locos.html hope it helps -- his opinions about the locos I run seem to be dead on.
To Dave Vollmer Amen to that brother!
Nice!! I got sucked right into his work -- very impressive. And actually, in his Q & A section, he does give away the scale: "I usually work in ½ in = 1 foot scale, which is half the size of dollhouse scale. The first few pieces I did were in dollhouse scale, but I decided to change to the smaller scale so I could build more intricate environments in the same-sized space. I also find the smaller scale more “intimate.” If I’m building a view out a window, that would be built at a smaller scale than
Previous posts have covered this, with the consensus being there are no currently available smoking steam engines in N scale (unless you have a bad short -- I managed to make one of my LED's in one of my passenger cars smoke pretty good the other night -- needless to say, I had to replace it), and if there were, you would probably not want to run them for various reasons (residue on tracks, smell, health issues with the smoke, etc.) That being said, on another forum I came across this link: http
Hello LNEFAN Awesome site!! I had compiled an archive of tileable textures from another site (grsite.com) but I think I like this one better! Can't wait to design and print some cardstock buildings, especially using some of the peeling painted wood textures. I draw (cadd) windows and doors and position them right over the textures Many of my buildings (N scale) consist of solid wood blocks ripped on my table saw to shape -- think of a building "extrusion" -- and then cut to lenght.
I feel qualified to answer! I'm 48, married almost 16 years, three kids, 12, 9, and 6. Now that the kids are a little older (i.e.: I'm not holding a baby in one arm, trying to work with the other) I find that we can spend many happy hours down in the basement (usually after supper, before story and bedtime) -- I putz away, building a structure, doing some scenery, or perhaps just running trains -- while one or two of my kids happily draws or paints or does clay on a table set up for them downstairs
Hello Lakemaligne: Just came across this eBay listing after reading about your search: http://cgi.ebay.com/WOODLAND-SCENICS-N-SCALE-AUTO-SCENE-THOMPSONS-TRAILER_W0QQitemZ370017234487QQihZ024QQcategoryZ19127QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I'm not bright enough to make a link, you may have to cut and paste. Anyway, it's for a Woodland Scenics set called Thompson's Trailer, and features a car pulling a small camper. Hope this is some help.
