Buy what YOU like, not what some shop owner THINKS you should buy. Most likely he has some stuff laying around that he has had for a while and he is looking for someone to unload it on.
As I am reading this thread, I was thinking the same thing. Regardless of brand, buy something that really excites you and the rest will be fine.
My local LHS, R Hobbies, in La Mirada, CA took my preorders for the Hogwarts add-on pack. I picked that up last month and heard it is sold out. I had months before placed my pre-order for the Nuclear Reactor which I picked up last week. He had one additional reactor left last week. I went ahead and pre-ordered the Orbitor set, the hotsauce car, and the Polar Express backdrop. I have decided to do preorders on something that I really want. On the other stuff that is a maybe, well.....it is probably
I have been reading this thread with some amazement to say the least. The Lionel LLC is what we have today. Companies come and go, reform, transition, change, etc. There are plenty of resources that enable anyone to find the business filings for name transfers, legal information, etc. As far as Wikipedia is concerned, most scholars will not allow students to use it since it flawed academically. There are too many opinions, etc. for Wikipedia to be referenced and accepted as a source. Good layman
From what I hear after speaking to some models out my way, most have been trying to find the old stuff to no avail. The new stuff just isn't up to the task. I really felt bad for them since it is not something that anyone else is likely, or even could manufacture.
Right now Hogwarts Express inner loop with a K-Line Pacific pulling a 3 unit consist of UP Heavyweights and a K-line Big Boy with a consist of various freight on the outer loop. A Lionel ATSF H12-44 is on a side track performing switching duties. A WBB UP Heritage is idle on a side track.
I agree, CAB1 and a couple of powermasters and you are set. Fairly low cost and you can always spend more on the more costly stuff later.
Does anyone know in what quantities this stuff gets made? It would be nice if total production run figures were available, at least after the production runs are finished. This would be helpful when deciding to try to find a particular item in the market. runtime
I agree. I decided to pre-order the Hogwarts add-on car set even though the catalog picture showed a copy of the standard car set numbers. My LHS told me don't worry about it. When I went to
I saw this thread and then looked at the stack of mail that I had and lo and behold, it was there! I really like the toy train style layouts and I thought that the idea of the fastrack as an alternative was a great idea.
Frankly, the moderators can do whatever they want since it is their board. I thought the subject was okay and last time I looked nothing had gone sideways. Different interests/hobby boards have varying tolerance levels for the opinions and subjects expressed on those boards. It is not necessarily good or bad, it just is. From my short experience so far, this hobby is less tolerant of opinions/concerns than others. I like the mag and I have fun with what I own. I have learned to just ask a lot more
The train store I go to simply shows me the new catalog and I write my name in what I would like to get. If it shows, great, if not, oh well. I do request other things that I am looking for and if he finds it, then I buy it. No stress nor time deadlines to fret about.
