Altoona Railfest 2009, Eleven of us drove down from Greenville, Pa. Sunday morning to the Altoona Railroaders Museum. We rode the train Sunday afternoon up and through the Horse Shoe Curve. We had a great time.
Krylon makes 3 clear finishes gloss, matte and flat. Walmart sells them for $2.97 a can around here. I have used the gloss and the matte sprays to seal wood. I have not used any of the 3 spray finishes on styrene or plastic. I have used Testor's Dull Cote on painted and unpainted buildings and cars. Dullcote has a strong odor and a spray booth or using it in a well ventilated area is recommended.
I have gotten them for free from a train shop. I paid $3.00 for a 2009 MTH at a hardware store that sells trains too. I guess it depends on the business you are at and if you are buying or just looking.
I an experimenting with foam core on several buildings right now. The buildings are nothing elaborate. One will be a warehouse type building, about 30 inches long by 17 1/2 inches wide and 10 inches tall. There will be an office attached to the one end. There will be 2 rail car doors and 4 truck dock doors. The other building is a 4 stall engine house, measues 24 inches deep, 22 inches wide and 8 inches tall. Both buildings will use a plastic corrugated product (used for signs) for the flat roofs
This is an age old question and no single answer works for everyone. If you have kids/grandkids you may want it lower. If no kids come to see or play with the layout, build it higher. I have no kids and no grandkids and rarely do kids come to see the layout. I built my layout 52 inches above the floor and have built in storage along the walls (3 sides). I do have a duckunder to get access to the middle of the layout. All aisles are 32 inches or wider. Along the wall the benchwork is 30 inches wide
Atlas 21st Century track and switches (072 & 054).
A large lumber yard in Northen Ohio sold homosote cut to size for bed boards for sagging mattresses back in the 1950s.. You placed them between the matress and the box springs.
Traindaddy1, What you have suggested already is being done in Large Scale. In fact they do several shows regionally every year. For about 10 years now Aristo Craft has put together a large scale only train show. Presently it is being held in York, Pa. usually the first weekend in April. Having been in large scale I have attended this show numerous times. They have manuafacturers (Aristo, USA Trains, Bachmann, LGB, and others) and vendors (Train World, Nicolas Smith, etc) selling in one wing of the
I'm just getting everything setup. I only have one power lead attached to the mainline and I have a Lionel GP30 (Legacy) with 10 miscellaneous freight cars behind it. My Lionel SD80 sits on a unpowered siding to the unbuilt coal mine with 4 coalveyors also waiting for me to order another 4 coalveyors. My Lionel U30C sits in the unpowered yard awaiting assignment. My Atlas GP9 sits in the yard waiting for me to get the power hooked up so it can make a train for the U30C to pull. Hopefully by Christmas
I worked for a company that made household and commercial cleaning products. Some of these products were liquid in plastic bottles, glass bottles, gallon and larger containers. The majority of these products were water based and susceptible to freezing. We also had a lot aerosol products and they needed to be protected form freezing too. For this reason we used insulated box cars to maintain a warm environment for our products. These products were shipped all over the United States all year long
