Well, you have to understand that we are accountants, and my wife not only is a practicing CPA, but teaches accounting.... One of her, my, our hobbies is shooting those get rich programs on TV full of holes.... We garden, she knits, the family is in on the model railroad... We love to do family type stuff, we cook together, we take turns reading aloud to the children, and the older girl takes her turn as well...
Wow, what a can of worms... I don't hide the cost of model railroading from my wife. I don't smoke at all, I don't drink much a six pack lasts a month or more. We talk about everything we spend money on regardless of the cost... My wife is very encouraging where my hobby is concerned, even encouraging me on a couple of occasions to buy estate collections to retail in order to generate income earmarked for building my own model railroad... Thanks to any of you who might have gotten this
Ebay, or I have also had good luck with www.hobbylinc.com

So I admit I'm a tad intimidated to open the box and find what I would call raw materials...LOL. I mean I've built a lot of plastic models, but this isn't something to put together while watching football... Questions: 1. what did you use to stain the wood? 2. what is the best way to proceed when doing one's first Craftsman kit? it seems to me that I could
The list gets longer every time I finish one... How about changing track plan mid stream, learning ops, working on geting the sub scenery done, painting some 24 DPM kits that are already built, making trees for others, making trees for me to use when its time... trying to dream up a convincing argument to buy a shay, trying to fix an old bachmann chassis so I can scratch build my own unique logging loco... Tempes fugit...
RT, http://www.trains.com/mrr/default.aspx?c=i&id=257 In the June (I think) 07 issue there was a great article on scratch built pines... These I can certify as easy to make and fun (if you are into twisting rope and metal...LOL... If you don't have the article the gist is this... You will need: bench vise drill cup hook-fasten it in the chuck of the drill sisal or manilla rope- untwist the strands down to the fibers, I cut it in 2-2.5 inch lengths first. floral wire-I forget the weight but
