I received the December 2009 CTT in the mail today. It is the special holiday issue, my favorite issue every year. I've just glanced through it, but it looks fantastic. 3 holiday articles, including NYC Fan's great Christmas layout, a weekend workshop for holiday trains, and photos of reader's Christmas layouts. Just wanted the CTT folks know how much I appreciate all the work that goes into a Christmas magazine issue. Thanks.
The Lionel Railroader Club 2009 Christmas Boxcar is shown on the Lionel LRRC website for club members to order. It is available now and quantities are limited. I haven't seen or head of this in an issue of Inside Track magazine yet, but I imagine it is going to be in the next issue. The boxcar looks pretty nice.
I received mine on the West Coast yesterday! It looks great. It has some neat layout articles. I really like Kent's layout. The only suggestion I have to improve the layout articles, at least for me, is to have some photos showing the overall layout, or at least as much as possible. The vignettes shown in the close up photos are great. They really show the detail and craftsmanship. But, I would like to see a mix of close ups and larger views so I can get a better sense of what the layout looks
Roger, Thank you for the well thought out reply. I'll keep the reasoning in mind when reading layout articles in the future. I also really like the plan view graphic of the layout with the overall dimensions. I get plentiful ideas from the layout plans.
Rob, Thanks for fixing the link I posted. I'm used to having the software automatically recognize a link and do all the work. Oh, I think I see how to do it now, just use the chain button.
Here is a link to a thread on the OGR forum about replacing the original antennae with a rubber duck: http://ogaugerr.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/57660482/m/911100771 edit to add: Not sure why it did not create a link. You are going to need to copy and paste the address into your web browser.
Just to add to what has been posted so far. It is recommended you add two devices to protect your trains. Both are easily available and are inexpensive. The two devices are 1) quick blow fuses (some folks use auto resetting circuit breakers), and 2) TVS. The former protects against high amperage such as from derails. The TVS protects against voltage spikes. Type TVS in the search window to the right and you'll find all kinds of previous posts with good info. If Lionelsoni posts, he can give you
Thanks for all the info. We are definitely going to Hershey Park for one of the days for the kids (young and old :) ) I'm leaning towards the Strasburg RR this trip so we can go on a train pulled by a steam locomotive.
I am going to be visiting relatives who live in the Harrisburg, PA area in late June. There are going to be adults and teens. I'm the only real train nut, although the other folks don't mind a little bit of trains. Some of the folks have already been to the railroad museum, TCA museum, and Choo Choo Barn in Strasburg. I was thinking of going for a ride on the Strasburg RR, but someone mentioned the Middletown & Hummelstown RR as another idea. Given that there are a bunch of things everyone
I got one a while back. It's easy enough to return, but I initially kept it on the theory that if I kept it and didn't buy it, they were less likely to send me another dvd. They kept sending me more postage paid envelopes over a period of several months, so I finally returned it (never watched it) so they would leave me alone. They haven't sent me anything else, so hopefully my delay in returning it got me on to the "do not send" list.
