I'll try to improve the trees and use them some place. Right now my ground is pretty barren so something is better than nothing. Thanks for the replies. Bob
On a recent trip to the Dollar Tree Store I came across Evergreen Trees, 2 per pack in the Christmas display. Of course a pack cost $1.00 and according to my calculator that's 50 cents a piece. That's what I call cheap. Using a hair dryer you might make them look some what better. As a loner and a newbe I often don't know how things look to other modlers as opposed to the unitiated who like most everything or won't say. Comments welcome. Bob
I would like to use fine gravel or maybe WS ballast at the end of a spur for a track bumper. My question is whether the white glue alcohol mix would short the track? Thanks, Bob
I'm going to stick with the gravel/ballast topped off with a dusting of soil and an even lighter one of weeds. That will make it look like it's been there a while. Also I won't need a night watchman to guard it. Locally CSX recently had a load of gravel dumped on an unused spur where it crossed a road They park gonds on it for a scrap dealer to use. Thanks for the replies. Bob
A really superb job. I echo the other post and think that the decal of the man sets it apart. A quick one for you but an impossible one for me. Thanks for sharing. Bob
I believe Bachmann is currently selling Spectrum 4-4-0's. I recently purchased one of their 4-6-0 w/s and am very satsified. Bob
Pick up the longest car you think you may ever run and use it to test your track as you lay it
Hi scottieboy, If you are still laying track, here's a tip that I just learned by not following my own advice. I bought a BLI Hudson 4-6-4 that was on sale and it found problems with my track. Namely, I had several curves that attached directly to the "through" section of the turnout causing it to derail. Adding a small straight scection between the
Model Railroading brings me PERSONAL SATISFACTION. I've always been what you would call mechanically inclined so the layout building and track work doesn't bother me that much. But, I have never displayed any artistic abilities. To me running the trains without scenery doesn't cut it. Consequently, I'm trying to be creative in a way I have never been before and that part of the modeling has become more important to me than any thing else. With that said, what makes me proud is a far
Hi Mike, I bought 1 pack of the Alloy fence a long time ago and when I started to install fencing I needed at least 2 more boxes but found that Hobbylinc.com has appearantly bought Alloy and has discontinued the fence along with a lot of other neat stuff. The fence would look really good with the upper and lower rails but I would have had to drill out the post holes which I could never do. I'm using fence by BLMA instead. In fact I was working on it this afternoon and at one point my threw a
In the begining I used a date stamp on my pictures. As I saw how long it was taking me to finish projects I stopped that practice so there is no longer any date to remind me. I stopped laying track for a while and am devoting my time working on top and I divide that up on different projects. The plus is that I don't get bored and I have time to think about what I'm trying to do. The negative is, however, that nothing has really been completed. In time I'll go back under the layout. Bob
