Does anyone know if there is a way to solder to piano wire and if so how?
I am in the process of upgrading my dcc system from an Atlas Commander to either Digitrax, NCE or MRC. One of the reasons I want to do this is because I have acquired N scale sound locos and want to be able to program them without having to buy a programming booster. Will any of these systems still require the purchase of a program booster or do the newer systems all have enough programming power to program for example, a BLI Paragon2 decoder?
I am having trouble with some N scale DCC equiped engines shorting out or stalling on my Pecco #6 turnouts. These are sound equiped diesels or short wheel base diesels like the 44 Tonner. I tried the nail polish trick on the insul frogs without success. Anyone know any tricks that might solve the problem?
I have an Nscale layout using Peco #6 Insul-frog turnouts. I am also using DCC. My problem is with some engines not running smoothly through the Peco turnouts. In particular, my Spectrum 44Tonner and Paragon 2 sound engine will stall completely or stall and start up again when the trucks hit the frogs. This only happens with some turnouts, not all. Is there anything I can do to correct this? Thanks for any help.
I received a new N Scale BLI Paragon 2 and tried running it on my layout. It will run great for a minute or so then shut down completely and after a minute or so will power up again. I dont think it is my track since it does this even when its standing still idling. And I do have other Atheran sound engines that run fine. I am using Atlas Commander for power. Could this have anything to do with it since there have been issues in the passed with too much voltage from the Commander? Or has anyone had
Just wondering if someone could tell what the platforms with barrels are for on many bridges. What is stored in the barrels? Are the platforms and barrels appropriate for a truss bridge in use today or were they used for steam operations only? Thanks
Micro Engineering does make joiners for this purpose but I just use the larger code 80 joiner and smash it down a bit on the code 70 side. They work fine. I did this because the Micro Engineering bridge track is code 70. On both ends of the bridge I needed to join the code 70 bridge track to the main line code 80 track. If you are joining code 80 to code 70 you will also have to file down the code 80 at the joint otherswise there is a bump.
I had a bad bottle of Poly Scale Railroad Tie Brown too. It was a blue/purple color. Did not look good at all. I bought a new bottle and that is a dark dirt brown color. Now I always give the bottle a few shakes before I buy it.
After many tries with different kinds of paint, I have discovered what it takes to make track look real to me. When real track and ties are new they are nearly black so I paint my newly layed track and ties a slightly watered down poly scale grimmy black. This goes on very fast with a small brush. Then I make a wash using poly scale railroad tie brown and paint it on the ties rather, kind of "smear" it on the ties. When it dries the ties look that uneven weathered gray/brown color. I use
I have a very small place on my Nscale DCC layout for a turntable. I see Peco makes a smaller turntable that would work nicely with my shorter locos. Can anyone tell me about the Nscale Peco turntable? Does it work ok? Can it be motorized? Is it easy to install?
