Hi, and to the forum How about building the layout on A-frame (or similar) legs with wheels, so you can just roll the layout out of the way when needed? You can have the layout top tilt vertically for easy storage, and put separate legs on the two sides for leveling. Here's how I built my own small test layout. Instead of plywood and foam you can also build the top frame as open grid and cookie cutter. My layout measured 112cm (44") from the floor to the top of the rails, but that was just
Oops, had allmost forgotten about this thread... A final update: I removed the track and roadbed and sold the layout a few months ago, to a guy who wanted a similar layout concept for his two sons. Now I'm planning a larger sectional shelf layout in my storage room, with more generous curves. Thanks for all the tips and comments guys! I have learned a lot while working on this layout, and even if I never got around to finishing it, I've had lots of fun! Svein

Great WPF with a lot of wonderful pics Now, something a bit different. Got my second brass engine yesterday, a loco I had since long desired but almost given up on by now, the NSB (Norwegian State Railways) class 24b. This one is made by Brimalm (Swedish mfg), only 250 made, and possibly the only one with factory installed DCC and sound, according to the previous owner. She also has sprung buffers and axels, and a detailed cab interior: The front pilot truck have larger flange wheels to negotiate
If it's the October -84 MR you want, you can order a back issue here . Sharing digital copies of MR isn't allowed as far as I know. Regards, Svein

[/quote] While resizing images smaller may help the download at dial-up speed, those of us with faster links might prefer the largest possible (sharp) image. I think those who link to large images should provide a link to smaller ones for the dial-up crowd (recognized this takes a bit more time

Wow, I can't believe it's been this long since my last post in this thread! About time for an update then... After allmost a year I finally got around to continue working on my layout again. The last couple of weeks I have been laying roadbed and track. I've never worked with flex track before, but I'm quite satisfied with the result: The radius is only 45cm, so I'll probably adjust the joints and solder them before removing the track nails and fastening the track with caulk:
That's a good idea Hornblower, thanks! I'll probably have to rebuild the legs at some point, or at least replace the upper crossmembers with two diagonal ones crossing each other. As it is now, the legs aren't quite as stiff as I was hoping for, and the layout is also mostly being pushed or pulled sideways when I move it around. Larger and more freerolling wheels will also reduce the strain on the crossmembers when moving it sideways, I'll keep it in mind when it's time for a
