BNSF stock was selling at $70.00 per share. Buffette bought the shares at $100. per--30% overpriced. He must know something we don't. This guy is no dummy. I certainly hope it all works out well. There are no plans to change the rr name, nor the CEO and nothing is in the works to relocate to Buffetts home base of Omaha.
It is often overlooked and mostly unknown that during the 1980's, SF did operate trk in IN. After the takeover, I can recall seeing many former TPW grain cars in a variety of colos roaming the rails in KS. After SF renumbered its GP38 fleet from 3500 to 2300 series in 1985, one could always detect a former TPW eng as they lacked dynamic brks, no roof mounted strobe light or cab ac (the latter two were later added)
Although we tend to think of steam engs, dome cars, Pullman Company and fallen rrs of way back when in classic terms, anything of a classic nature is over 20 yrs old--one generation. This post is being written on 10/8/09. Any rr event prior to 10/8/89 would be considered classic event. Think of this: the 1988 mergers of SP/SSW into Rio Grande and Katy/UP are now classic rr events. Come 20 yrs from now in 2029, we will be yaking about the classicrr events of the first decade of the 21st century
Paul: thanks for your help in locating the issue of topic. I did not do my homework good enough as I still have the issue in the files and have located what I was needing. Project completed.
NECR 323/324 I believe are old CV symbols still in use. Also the Feb, 1982 rains has a very good detailed report on the Conn River line.
Am looking for a article from a past issue from way back. It might be in the 11/87 issue about a son who took his dad on a SF cab ride in Gallup, NM back around 1965. The title might be Ted's Last Train Ride. If anyone has this issue, can you verify this article is in the issue? I thus can order it from archive dept. Had the issue but discarded many redundent issues several yrs ago which I now regret. Thanks for help on this matter
My favorite time of yr, hands down. Sept-Jan is what I live for all yr long. The BNSF/Amtrak route across Oklahoma runs just to the east of Gaylord Memorial stadium in Norman which is the home of the OU Sooners. The talk in college football this wk is Sooner qb Sam Bradford going down w/ a throwing shoulder injury in their loss to BYU on Sat. Needless to say this is not good and runied my wknd and perhaps the whole season.
Recently I spotted a gloss red flattop cab painted RI @ Guymon, OK in the midtown park just off US 54. What the history of this car holds, I do not know
To our friends Zugmann and Murray: chill out. I'm not knocking law enforcement folks. Just like every profession, there are folks who let their jobs go to their heads and perhaps, that is what took place on the issue of discussion. My brother was a officer for the Sedgwick County sherriff dept for 11 yrs until making a career change and getting out of law enforcement. I'm no stanger to law officers and what they do but again there are bad/dumb apples in every bunch. One of the forum members
The gold medal award for rr incorrect movie scenes goes to the 1993 'Civil War' that shows freight cars w/ automatic couplers. Also if one looks quite carefully, overhead electric power lines can be seen. By no means does it take away from the purpose of the production because it was a very good release and worth watching more than once.
