I am thinking of making the switch from O-27 tubular to Fastrack. I have heard of the advantages and like Fastrack, but is it worth the cost and is it that great of a thing to completely overhaul my track system? And also, what is a way to get the remote turnouts at a lower price if I do make the switch.
I would like to put extra ties under my tubular track and would like to no if there is a way to do it where I could get supplies from a hardware store. I also have a inch and a half of foam on top of half inch plywood. What size screws should I use to tack the track down?
I am planning my 12 X 8 layout that is 2 sheets of plywood. I am interested in layouts that have elevated lines but if I put an elevated line in my layout i want grades to connect it to the rest of the layout. Is there a plan that I could have space underneath the elevated line still with grades and have it operate functionally or should I just make the plan all level. I am stuck in planning this layout
I have an inch and a half of foam insulation board on top of my plywood table to serve as the scenery base for my layout and am using woodland scenics foam for my roadbed. How do I go about attaching the roadbed to the foam, and then the track to the roaadbed.
I'm fifteen years old, and I enjy this hobby but I'm busy with school and activities and I cant always find money all the time for my train projects. Whaat did you do or what would you do at my age, its an awkward time to try to continue my hobby even though I still love it.
I have broken the axles and wheels of some of my lionel cars. Are there replacement trucks for lionel cars?
I Have some box cars where the axle is bent. Is there a way I can take the axle out and bend it back into shape so the wheels aren't all messed up?
I have struggled to plan my 4' by 16' layout, but I am closer to having a plan. What do you guys think a minumum height is to have a 2nd level cross over a 1st level on a layout. I was thinking about 5.5 inches for a bridge over the bottom level of track. I thought about having a 2nd level that is 4" above the bottom and rises at a grade to the bridge, or just two seperate 4 percent grades that lead up to a diagonal cross over the first level.
Is asking a train to rise to a height of 6 in over about 4 and a half feet asking too much? If it is how far should I look to make a grade to rise to this height?
You could include two seperate cities with a mainline that goes around the layout for passengers, and freight trains and streetcars on the city streets, and there could be an interchange where the freight cars from the city are set out for the mainline between the two cities
