IMO, BEMF can be more headaches than its worth. There have been recent threads that have debated the pros and cons of BEMF. I prefer a situation where if I'm running a drag freight up a grade that I need to add alittle more throttle to help it maintain its speed or vice versa and cut the throttle a little if going down grade. There have also been threads discussing problems with BEMF and consisting. Your second point is one of the business model problems
I bought a digitrax DH165K1A decoder , I set CV 51=106 , CV 52=107 , CV 62=196 .. The ditch lights come on with the headlights , but when you hit the F2 function for alternating ditch lights its so faint you can hardly tell there flashing. I tried setting CV 62=128 seem to help a little but not like it should be. They use to work fine in DC. Im just now switching everything over to DCC because I finally got myself a NCE system at trainfest saturday, so im new to
first i need help figuring out what digitrax dcc board fits in the genesis sd60m the one that was in there prior to the new one had more tabs the new one only has enough 4 the the power pickups and front and rear lights not the ditch lights. second i need help removing the shell of my atlas 8-40c thanks.
If you are using something like a DH165A0 (I'd recommend this one for your locomotive) then the ditch lights connect to the F1 and F2 outputs (with the
You can also run the LEDs in a series/parallel arrangement to save a lot of wasted power and thus need smaller power supplies. Karl
Agreed. It just makes troubleshooting more tedious but you can power more LEDs off the same supply.
That's great a DS64 does all that, but what if I ONLY need to control the turnout? Routes I can do in the command station or JMRI, I don't need feedback because JMRI will 'see' any command sent to the decoder, there are local pushbuttons on the Switch-It, and the circuitry for supporting a solenoid machine is just wasted money when I am using nothing but Tortoises. Actually my control scheme is a bit more complex so the bottom line is I want the simplest
I'd suggest a 12V DC supply. The question is how many LEDs do you think you'll be powering ? Assume 20ma for each. So for a 1A supply it will power about 50. The largest "walwarts" are in the 1.5 - 2A range. You can get a 12V DC in this range for $15 from places like Jameco Electronics. Beyond that you can go to a larger power supply in the 3-4A range. You can find them for around $30-40. You can also split your 14ga bus up into multiple lighting districts and power each one from
However the non-sound Paragons were generally DCC ready, just plug in the decoder (as he has done). I would go back to step 1 - put the dummy plug back in and test it on DC. Something is clearly wrong, like a loose wire or something that is causing the motor to not be isolated properly. --Randy
So the original non-sound Paragons didn't come with a DCC motor controller, just a dummy plug ? The only Paragons I have all came with sound and DCC so I don't
I attended the NMRA Division 3 train show in Dayton, Ohio today. It is at Hara Arena today and tomorrow. The crowd was very good. A decent selection of vendors, although I have been seen more there at times in the past. They have the best set of modular and working model railroads that I have ever seen at a show. Two rooms were filled with displays. I picked up a locomotive, a UR92 panel, some Stack Train containers and a few other items. There was a good selection in all scales. If you are in the

this worked great! I take it I need to do that CV29 for each loco correct? same steps for each loco? I do appreciate your fast reply :)
Actually, no. Only if your decoder type is being given what the manufacturer specifies is a "long" or an "extended" address for that decoder. For the QSI brand, any address using a number higher than "127" is considered to be an extended address. In that case
Plugging the decoder in backwards won't smoke it, the NMRA 8 pin plug is designed to allow for that. The loco will run backwards, but it won't smoke the decoder. Is this really a Blueline, or is it a Stealth version of the older Paragon locos? I was not aware of Bluelines without sound. --Randy
It appears you are correct: http://www.pacific-western-rail.com/view_product.php?ProductID=45232 Broadway Limited doesn't list them any longer on their
