I was lucky enough to have a hillside on which to build my layout, so that provided a perfect base for my mountains. But I had to dig out much of the hill in order to build the tunnels, which were made from concrete blocks topped with reinforced concrete slabs. Then I built the mountains over the tunnels, using tons of rock and mortar plus some of the soil that was dug out of the hill. Because of the steep terrain, I had to cement all my rocks together with mortar. If you're building something
Heheh! The people of Dos Manos tried calling out the National Guard, but due to budget cuts all they got was a squad of attack lizards.
Ray, do you have a JACK-A-LOP plannned?? Nice craftmanship Dave
Thanks! Yes, I plan to put one on display inside a store or saloon (prototypically); but I also may have a "free-range" jackalope somewhere on the layout.
Excellent artisanship my friend. That “tree(?)” behind Mr. Rabbit, is it real, or another piece of your artwork?
I made it. It's supposed to be the "skeleton" of a dead cholla cactus.
Here's a shot of the engineer in the cab of the loco: . It was tough getting him in through the window. He's less flexible now than when I was making him. I'll probably forget about giving him glasses, as they would be too delicate and likely would be damaged. I just finished making a 1/24th scale replica of a chuckwalla. That's a type of large, fat lizard that lives in the desert. They can get up to 18" long: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I'm
I just finished a couple new figures. One is an engineer for my Bachmann 4-6-0, based on my father-in-law. I had to take a few liberties with the anatomy in order to make him fit the notoriously cramped cab of the 4-6-0. I still need to make him some glasses... . . . . . . . . . The next item is a jackrabbit! I plan to make a few more of these little guys to populate my desert layout... . ... . . . . . . .
Jaime, I'm sorry for your loss. My condolences to you and your family.
This little neighbor boy is a big fan of Thomas the Tank Engine, and that's what he wanted to be for Halloween. So his dad made him this nifty costume: . BTW, I always fix up our front patio into kind of a "haunted house", which is always very popular with the local kids. This year I made myself a jack o'lantern mask: . It was very effective but also rather hot and uncomfortable. But at least the kids enjoyed it.
Ray: I too want to experiment with the camera car, but before I post anything I want to cover the interior of my one tunnel to hide the cinderblocks. Have you given any thought to that issue. It is obvious that Dave did on his "mini-Disney". I Googled the name of his GRR and found his site. Awsum pics out there and snappy little vid.
Yeah, I'm making plans to do improve the appearance of my tunnel interiors "one of these days". I'd
