for M.B. Klein aka www.modeltrainstuff.com J
Couldn't agree more. It wasn't too long ago that there on-line presents wasn't that great but they have come a long way since. They have gotten the majority of my train funds over the years for a good reason. Cheers, Peter
Thanks for the input guys and Ray thanks for the photo. I probably wouldn't have the depth to make it work. I would likely stick with N if I had to pick but I'm not. I suspect I will have a multi-layer layout again... just done better (I hope). Peter
Dude, I just tore out four years worth of effort on my 12x13 and probably a couple grand not to mention countless hours. But it just wasn't right. Take the time to plan... that was probably my biggest problem. This first one is probably not going to be perfect either no matter how well planned out but it helps. Peter
Ulrich, You so have described my state of mind too. I will likley follow a path as you decribed an my new layout. I want the infrastructure to by really light weight, made of non-expanding/contracting materials, and somewhat easily removable if I do move. So now whats the plan? Peter
Wasn't it fun, or at least educational? Mark
Absolutely Mark, it was very educational and most of the time fun. Still as the OP mention, it was hard to tear down thinking of the money that could have gone into a layout that could have see many years of use, not just a few hours. Planning, keeping the big picture in mind and as it is hard to admit, not being stingy. If you gonna do it, buy good equipment (at least for the infrastructure). Peter
Brooklyn Locomotive Supply is Awesome! That is buynscale.com if the link does not work. Peter
Hello guys and gals, This past weekend I have demolished my layout I have work on over the past four years. Crazy I know. I did salvage the track and structures. The major reason I would have to say was reliability. With the wood frame construction and the highly variable humidity, there were many problems with the track. Also, like is common in Alaska house construction, adding on can cause problems and a lack of continuity. I have learned a lot but realize that I have much more to learn. I plan
Read up on spline-roadbeds. I believe this is my next iteration for my basement layout. I have tried plywood and foam and though they worked OK, I was just not satisfied. In the end, a little planning goes a long way! A small layout is a good idea... just leave room and you will most certainly want to expand. Peter
I would highly recommend joining the QSI Yahoo Group . I got some valuable information from there. QSI monitors it closely. Peter
