well, it's not local to you per se... but Depot Trains on W. 130 is pretty solid in their Nothing Scale offerings they're usually out at teh Berea train show in October... and Jim really knows his stuff. As far as railfanning places, Berea has a couple of nice spots, and there's the rail yard just off of 480 & 71.. don't know if they'll let you railfan there though -- maybe someole's been there and would know...

looks like it was operating in 'honorary steam locomotive' mode....
depending on the car -- the simplest way will probably be to *cut off* the coupler pocket on the trucks, then body-mount the couplers of your choice (5/58 for the de-facto standard/semi scale.... or their whisker-spring counterparts, whose part numbers i forget... maybe 105/158?). I've done a few truck-mounted KD installs (bought the sample pack from a train show one year) -- it's a lot more work for not so much improvement
I've seen a lot of this "collector vs. Model Railroader" being thrown around over the weekend...maybe it's the topics that came up... maybe it's just that time of summer... don't know what's causing it. maybe I'm being daft, but aren't we all collectors (at least to some degree)? I mean, there are differences between the 'operator' and 'keep it in mint condition in the box' mentalities... but there are also differences in the 'operations'
well, nice to see that there is a distinction that I wasn't thinking about ( and being somewhat overly dense myself); rather than it simply being an 'us' vs. 'them' debate without anything really substantial to back up the arguments
As for the counseling question, you're a Slobbering Pennsy Freak. Of course you need professional counseling. Not to mention the 12 step program from PA (Pennsyholics Anonymous). First you have to admit you're powerless over the siren call of the PRR.
nah, his real problem is the CONRAIL blue....
yeah, well.. not so much to go on as far as 'modern' logos.... UP Shield NS stallion CSX... boxcar... thing BNSF... do they even have a proper logo? don't think i'm forgeting about anyone.... now, the PRR Keystone...
Kalmbach will provide reprints of articles from older mags to the tune of $5. They come as copies on 11x14 paper -- ads and all from back then. IIRC one of the ads on the reprint I got was from Mantua for a new loco kit for $25....
thanks a lot guys.... was wondering what distinctions people used to define others...especially since it seems there's a similar distaste toward the "collector" as there is the "rivet counter" (though both are apparently in good humour ... at least to a point)...
