In an issue not too long ago, someone suggested the idea of using 2 zip ties to secure the track to the foam and plywood base. You would take the first tie and trim it back (i.e. cut off just enough of the locking section as to allow it to still grip the rail without sticking up) and then use a second zip tie's locking section on the first tie's stalk section underneath the table to secure it. Assuming you use a long enough zip tie, you could go through the foam and plywood base and lock
I live in sweet home Chicago. A few people have asked about my screen name on the forum too, I made it Demon09 because I am a DePaul Blue Demon.
Well said, Dwayne. Although I'm sure many on this forum appreciate the fact that you come to our online community for advice on the matter, it all comes down to what you want to get out of it. As I often tell people, what you put into something is often proportional to what you get out of it, meaning if you keep thinking it isn't worth it, it won't be. Although it does get to be an expensive hobby, I have still found it enjoyable, despite the fact that I am not able to spend more than
Hey Danrunner, Things have been going well, I just finished my second year student teaching, I will be heading into my senior year and off to grad school hopefully. I hope things are going good for you too after the move and all. Have you gotten settled into things yet? Any plans for a layout? I will have to keep a close eye on whether this layout gets donated soon and upload pictures. I can't imagine anyone would turn down such a donation, though. I would love to see a video detailing the layout
That's probably the case, the article says the layout has been featured on CNN, the Today Show, and Oprah as well. I still haven't been able to find much about those articles on the web, though... A few other stories, but I didn't get a chance to skim them.
For those of you who get the Sunday edition of the Chicago Tribune, in the sales ad package is a copy of the Chicago Tribune Magazine. This week's featured article is about "The Train Lady", A.K.A Elaine Silet. The article talks about her love of trains, her business Huff & Puff Industries (layout design and building), and her intent to donate her late husband's 44 by 27 foot layout to the Chicago Children's Museum. The article is well written, and includes many impressive
I would advise getting a BCR (Battery Component Replacement). There are a few companies that make them, they generally work the same and run about $20 from most shops. The nice thing is that they will help you avoid the 3 clanks of death, and many of them take only 30-60 seconds to charge, as opposed to the 18 hours or so with the original batteries. You can find the most common ones advertised in CTT. Installing these items is as simple as replacing a regular 9v battery, with just removing the old
I saw track add on packs for Lemax trains at my local Menards home supply store (I don't know if Menards is just a Midwest thing, or if they have any in your part of the country...) If you have any of them in your area, you could try looking there. Unfortunately, they don't sell online, so you would have to stop in there in person. Hobby Lobby also carries Lemax items, as well as many train items, perhaps they would have something useful?
Got mine today.... For some strange reason it was stuck underneath the door all crumpled up when I got home from work..... I was none too happy about it, too...
Hi Chuck, I tried the unlock procedure from the manual, it will still only act in reverse or neutral. The loco doen't come up in the program mode at all, it makes the sounds as if it is (the two bell dings and the engine start up) but the loco is moving in reverse at that point. I don't have access to a z-4000 but I will likely try to go back to the hobby shop I bought it at. They have a z-4000 set up, and a service station so maybe they can look at it and figure it out.... I'm just hoping
