I will thank my son for waking me up...and posting that I'm interested!

Dan, I should be able to mail it Monday 11-9; it took me a bit longer to read than my earlier estimate, as it got a bit more interesting as it went on. I thought it was an interesting read. I learned a lot I didn't know before regarding the railroad's history. Z
Thanks, I'm looking forward to it.
Got it today. Once I have a chance to get into it and see how it reads I'll
Well now we have an interesting situation. Are we going to call engines built at GMD in London, ON, EMD units? If so have a look at this SD40-2F: http://www.mountainrailway.com/Roster%20Archive/CP%209000/CP%209000.htm Bruce
I guess I always considered 'em EMDs at heart. Kinda like Lincoln/Ford/Mercury I guess.

In the nose of widenose engines GEs have their doors on the Conductors side and EMDs have theirs on the Engineer's side of the headlight Is there any rhyme/reason for this?
Since the experts haven't had time to weigh in on this question yet, it gives me a chance to ask a followup question. As well as the difference between GE and EMD engines, does the door position also have to do with the age of the EMD unit? I say
Just noticed this in some pictures I have...but it made me curious anyway. In the nose of widenose engines GEs have their doors on the Conductors side and EMDs have theirs on the Engineer's side of the headlight Is there any rhyme/reason for this?
Does anyone know if CN is running some kind of unit sulphur train? Several times in the last two weeks(ish) I have seen a train of nothing but tanks that I think were labeled for Sulphur. I have seen it going both North and South.
This should be what would be correct then. I don't think the distance between '4' and '7' warrants an intermediate but I'll check. Let's say, for example, that a train is lined through on Main 2 (routed 1-4-8)...how far ahead of the train would the signal change? Once they enter the block past the diamonds (remember they're RR East of here) or a different point?
Couldn't tell you about eastern railways, but no Class 1 western railway signal engineering department would approve this. Changes I would need to make are: Signal 3 single-head only (what's the second head for?) Need an intermediate on Main #2 facing both directions perpendicular to the location of signal 8 Distance between signals 2&5 and 1&4 cannot be more than about 2,000 feet. Either move the siding turnout back to the CP for the crossovers
