In my area there are 6 sales sponcered by train groups. There is also an annual auction sponcered by our Division of the NMRA. There seems to be similar events in many areas. You local hobby shops will know as will the Divisions in your area.
Welcome back. My wife and I did that 4 years ago. I stayed in HO but have enjoyed trains more than ever. This forum sure has answered a lot on my questions. Some have even been useful answers.
My My, what an artist you are. Such wonderful attention to detail. Your imagination is exceeded only by your exicution. Thanks for the pics and the inspiration.
I just finished building one. I am new to airbrushing so I cannot say how well it works. I did not have access to an outside vent. This is what I did. We could talk more if you want. 1. I built a basic box out of particle board with Melmine faces left over from another project. 2. I made some holders for paint jars with a forsner bit and screwed them on the top. 3. I modified a cheap stove exaust fan and fastened it to the rear of the box. It seems to work, so far. I am not sure I have enough charcoal
For a top coat I use my version of ground goop (Lou Sassi). Premixed Dry Wall seam cement, latex paint for color, saw dust for texture, Lysol for mold control ( acouple drops will do) Water for thickness. If I just want color and texture I make is thin. If there are a lots of holes to fill, l do not add water. I "paint" it on with a cheap paint brush. I like to glue the pieces together with a low temp hot glue gun. The high temp will melt the foam. That is MUCH faster. I can stack a dozen
In 1950 my dad gave me an HO John English 0-4-0 Yard Bird kit. I was always going to detail it. Now some 55 years later I have remotored it, added valve gear, a full detail job, sound and DCC. It was a huge job and I loved every minute of it. A true craftsman would have done it better and quicker, but I think it is fine and it finishes something I started as a boy. It now awaits paint. I am trying to learn airbrushing. Here is one pic. The point?? Try it, you may like it.
I have constructed a nice spray booth for my airbrush. I need to build a powered filter system for it that I can use in doors. I need suggestions for motor, fan and filters. Thanks
1. There are dozens of engines you cannot get any other way. 2. They are much better detailed. Even the newest plastic and die cast are only " almost as nice". 3. I don't think they are better runners these days and after you put sound and a DCC decoder in them, they are not easier. But ther are still the only way to get some great steam models.
Welcome I just returned 4 yerrs ago. Some things I learned 1. No brass track. 2. In our area there are many Train flea markets, great place to get started.. 3. In our area there is a Division of the National Model Railraod Association. It is a great place to meet people who will help, 4. Consider DCC. It is what I always wished playing with trains would be like. I started back with DC and wasted some money and a lot of time. 5. Read a lot of old magazines until you know what you want. 6. Don't
