I'm in the process of building my new layout, and I've always wanted a magnetic crane. Of all the cranes Lionel has made past and present, witch one is most reliable for operation?
I found and bought a couple of sheets of the sound board, tomorrow I want to start installing it. Can I use just regular wood glue to glue the sound board to the plywood? When I go to screw the track down, will I need to predrill the holes to prevent splitting?
I found a store near by that carries the sound board. Whats the best way to secure it to the layout? I take it the best way to secure the track to use screws that will only go though the sound board and not the plywood top? Do I need to paint (seal) the soundboard first before installing?
I havent been able to find any soundboard (sound stop?) I was thinking about using the foam board. So far all I have been able to find is either 1/2", or 3/4" thick. My main question to those that are using Lionel O tube track, How do you secure the track to keep it from moving around or coming apart. From my last layout, the foam dosent hold screws that well without going into the plywood top.
Do the 1121 switch have the auto derailling function? I would like to do double switch back and be able to run the large fange wheel Marx's engines.
I'm thinking about get some new transformers for the new layout. I'm seeing two types of the current style "ZW", one with a pair of 135 watt powerhouses, and the other newer with 180 watt powerhouses. Other than the powerhouses, what are the differences between to two main units? The second question, on the old style cw80 with the external brick, How good are they? any problems like some of the new style cw80's?
I'm getting ready to start building a new layout at the new house. I looking at the local Home Depot at there selection of wood, and there wasn't a straight stick there. All the plywood was warped, some so bad to curve around a corner. Where are some good places to buy wood, Anyone know of some good places in houston area?
Kewl, thanks for the info. the e-bay auction went higher than i wanted to spend, but now i know what to look for.
ok, anyone know where can I find a part list? the only book I have is for postwar Lionel.
I have a Lionel 8477 GP-9 with a cratered pullmor motor. Can I use the power truck / motor from a GP-7 in place of the bad motor? There is a motor and frame on e-bay I was thinking about. Any one know where I can find replacement parts for 70-86 vintage engines? Thanks
