Well the little town where I was born (Hobart, OK) had an old Rock Island Depot that went derelict for many years. I guess a few years ago the Historical Society decided to fix the old Depot up and has made it into a rail/ local area museum. I haven't had time to visit it yet but one of these days I'm going to. Brad
Well I was sent to CA for some training and so I haven't seen my layout in a month... But I did get to see some old Santa Fe Refer cars that the Army bought and dumped out in the Desert. Just thought I would Share. Brad
Well I'm still plugging away. I haven't finished it yet but I'm working on a walthers cornerstone stock yard. Here are a couple of shots of it, trying to get an idea of how it will look on my layout. Some amazing contributions!! Brad
To All: As the guy who started this thread, I just want to say thank you to all that participated in it. I was just looking to start a healthy debate on this topic and to find out what the general consensus was on this sort of thing. I guess to me it's was just a shock that MR would feature something like these in there pages. I am one of those guys that look at the layouts feature thinking, "WOW what a great layout that this Modeler has built." I've been interested in this hobby
What a lot of Great responses!! I was just wondering what the consensus would be on this topic. I'm one of those modellers that likes to do it myself.... and I guess that's what I do with all of my hobbies. I can see the point of taking things to an outside source to have the work done. Lateral-G you talk about cars quite a bit and I know...when I get the money I'm going to have the windshield gasket replace by a pro. in my 47 Ford truck. I don't have the tools or the skill for that
Well as a member of the armed services, I don't know I guess I've been putting off drawing up a will. I'm only 29 and I guess part of me thinks that I'm gonna jinx myself if I do before I deploy, on the other hand I don't want my wife and family to have to worry about things. I guess I'll give my trains to my kids, and whatever they want to do with it is thier biz. But I have sorta another question along these lines...and again I don't know how to breach the subject really
After reading the MAY issue of MR, I had a question and was wondering what everyones take on this would be. The article I'm referring to is Lots of Locomotives in a small space . Now my concern with this article is the fact that the person had a layout building company build the layout. The overall size of the layout is rather small and I could understand if the person had some sort of disablity that would prevent them from build such a layout, but the excuse that he didn't have the time
What CSX Robert said is more than likely what is happening. You are getting a short where the siding is connecting the two sides of your oval. In order for you to get it to work right... if this is the case... would be to cut gaps in the rails at both ends of the track that is connecting the oval. You would then have to give that section of track its on set of feeder wires. This is were it get kinda complicated.... You will need to find a Double Throw, Double Pole (DTDP) switch to use as an Auxiliary
Well in support of the new thread here is my pic and here is one that is more train related Brad
Well here is a blast from the past I'm sure, this is a couple of shots of my control panel for my little layout. I think that for a layout my size that DC is the way for me... Brad
