Did any body notice that some nefarious character calling himself Erik Bergstrom has an article in the October MR ? Does anyone recall ever having heard that name before?
Yeah, I remember that bum. Oh wait, that's me! Thanks for noticing! Funny thing is, I wrote that a few months before I left Kalmbach, and I left Kalmbach in early May. (I know it got bumped a time or two.) I did that project to see if it was easier -- and if the results were better
Holy thread from 2007, Batman! Find Mike Yuhas' username and send him a message about it. That's his baby. Bergie
I voted for Andy's shot of the DM&E meeting the MILW 261. Meet shots always require a bit of timing and a large dose of dumb luck and I'd say that his view had both of those. Lance
Hey Lance, awesome avatar photo. Nicely done! Bergie
I'm going to Arizona later this summer and will probably be spending one night in Williams (en route to the Grand Canyon). Do any of you have either personal experience photographing that area or know of any good Web sites that profile the area? I'm hoping to spend one of the mornings out along the BNSF, but would also consider venturing out to shoot the Grand Canyon Railway as it heads from Williams to the south rim. (Unfortunately, as much as I'd like to ride that train, it doesn't
I went with Drew's shot for one reason: I know where the shot is taken and know it's not an easy one to pull off. Hat's off, Drew. The other two shots were good; I just gave Drew more credit for the degree of difficulty. And Andy, I'm glad you're experiencing first hand how complex Trackside is. Welcome aboard! Bergie
It's too bad the hobby has never been able to capitalize on the popularity of the wooden Thomas the Tank Engine products. Unfortunately, most boys lose interest in those toys by time they're 5 (if not 4). Unfortunatley, at that stage in their life they might not be ready for an HO scale set (I'm sure some of you will debate that). I've long felt that the next step after the wooden train set would be LEGO trains. They have several sets that will teach kids problem-solving skills and
Retirement... you lucky dog. I just "retired" from Kalmbach but find that I'll probably need to work for another 20 years or so to have a nest egg of any sort. Have you considered anything in Wisconsin along the Mississippi north of LaCrosse? You could have BNSF on the Wisconsin side, CP on the Minnesota side, and the added bonus of activity on the river. Naturally, if you could find something on a bluff that would eliminate the risk of floods it would be ideal. If you want to do a
Manager of the Reader's Digest Forum???? Now that has the potential of being curious in the extreme. Thank you to everyone for your kind comments. It's this type of feedback and has made my decision a difficult one. To Coburn's point, sometimes you have to step out of your comfort zone and take on a new challenge in life. Plus, I also love food, so it's not like I'm stepping into something that I have absolutely zero interest in. I'm sure I'll be around here from time to time. In the mean time, thank you all for your positive contributions to our forums. I've tried to
