I voted for Andy's ghost town photo with a BNSF passing freight. It reminded me of the old town of Drawbridge,CA. with its few buildings slowly sinking into the marshes of San Francisco bay. This photo shows both the past,in the abandoned school house, and the preasant, in the modern BNSF freight.
Female Amtrak engineers, the swimsuit edition.
The BL-2. EMD's crossover sucess story.
It is a very short run, maybe 1/2 mile at the most. At one time there was a proposal to run the line south about 2 miles further to a planned picnick site but this never happened.
There is a turntable at Laws,CA. on the SP narrow gauge line from Keeler. The turntable, along with 2-6-0 #9 and some freight cars, the station and a few buildings are preserved here.
A gutted and scrubbed SD-45 (nee Santa Fe?), painted in "Big Sky Blue" and numbered Great Northern 411, recently arrived at the Isaac Walton Inn in Essex, MT. It was lifted onto a special track, by Hulcher, a couple of weeks ago and is being outfitted for guests at the inn. It will rent for $299 / night, with all amenities, last I heard. Skylights and a picture-window, looking out on the BNSF main, will be included.
This unit is an F45.
It was a tough desision, but Andy's sunrise shot of the ethanol train won my vote. For a while,I considered having myself cloned several times so I could vote for all of my favorites.
Normally, trains or trolleys only run to the south end on special event days. North of the Perris depot, the line is the BNSF San Jacinto branch to Hemet. An annual trip is made every spring to March Field to visit the air museum there. Sometimes the steam loco,VC2, will run about a mile north of the Perris depot to Nuevo street. Tracks are now being built into the Perris depot,so across the platform connections can be made with Metrolink trains when that service starts in a few years.
SPs sugar beet trains were definately classic trains, especially before the steel hoppers started arriving!
I am very familiar with Reddy Killowatt since my father worked for Southern California Edison for almost 30 years. I didn't know he had his own website, though.I think the best NS color scheme would be the current logo on a Southern green carbody.
