When it comes to simple elegant grace, British locos in general are hard to beat. Is that a triplex? It looks like there are more cylinders under the smokebox. As far as North America is concerned, the CPR Royal Hudson's come out on top for me. Kings have 4 cylinders. BTW I must apologize -- I didn't notice the N and thought that the subject was "ever was"

Looks like Hornby has now got several LNER pacifics on offer, see http://www.hornby.com/livesteam/
We've recently lost two more in the Philadelphia area. 1/ M and G Hobbies on Rte 130 in Delran NJ -- the stock appears to still be inside -- but no-one seems to have seen or heard of George Ellenbark since October '07. I am affected by the fact that my 00 gauge County class 4-6-0 was (or probably still is) in there, to be repaired. 2/ Jenkintown Hobbies on Greenwood Ave. -- the place has been cleaned out -- apparently they have gone out of business. Neither of them ever seemed to be very
All sarcasm aside; Bachman's Thomas family is a great source -- if you are building a British themed layout -- see http://mike-stevens.fotopic.net/p31954156.html

Glad to see that this still didn't get yanked -- but then it is only 08:20 in Badger land. Brunton makes the most salient observation -- because MR has really pulled off a "scoop" with the December issue -- having Rod Stewart's name on the cover really drew attention -- why I have been fielding Emails from friends (some in England) who I didn't even know were aware of MR's existence. I wonder what the sales numbers have been for that issue?
That's the Model Power stuff. Trainworld sells it by the box for 75% of its price for Atlas Flextrack. I bought several boxes back when it was only $100 per box. I actually found that MP was easier to work with (free-er flexing), than Atlas -- also the tie-clips are smaller and a little closer to scale. Watch out for melted tie-clips near the ends -- if they were soldered.
And there was I carefully complying with the "no advertising" rule BTW here's what I mean by "lack of elbow room". http://mike-stevens.fotopic.net/p47782017.html
