Guess I'll have to derive my pleasure from other aspects of the job...
Like perhaps the fact that you DO have a job, whereas 10%+ of the population does not?
Sorry to hear of the automotive conspiracy against you joining us, Jim. It sounds like an expensive problem to fix. Were you there Sunday?
Thanks, Dave. The only repair costs were that of a new battery ($100), so it wasn't too bad. I didn't go Sunday because my main reason for going is to meet the gang at the Kalmbach booth (as Noah said, the layouts are about the same every year).
Well unfortunately Zardoz/Jim did not join us, or maybe he saw the group and backed away
Ha ha. Actually, I had every intention of attending. I got in my vehicle promptly at 10am, turned the key to start the car, and...nothing. Dead. Not even enough juice to cause the clicking sound. (A plate had cracked in the battery. My fault, though, for being too cheap. The battery was the original one (my vehicle is a 2001 Explorer), and I was trying to get as much life
Another fine group of photos. But the two which for me best related to the theme this week were Aaron's and Andy's. Aaron's shot was composed so nicely and I loved the many nuances of the multitude of shades of gray in the image. But the one thing that was missing was an obvious link to the present. To me, it is a most excellent image that could easily have been taken 100 years ago. Andy's shot, while composed nicely, lacked the exquisite detail of Aaron's; however, it made up
Maybe that great philosopher Red Green has it figured out: "We're men....but we can change...if we have to.......I guess."
Don't forget the "Experts" portion of the show, where they feature a panel of Possum Lodge members who deal with viewer mail and those three little words that men find impossible to say ... "I Don't Know." Red's philosophy : "If women don't find you handsome, they should at least
"A profile of freshly-minted Trainmasters that were willing to admit that they knew hardly anything about how a railroad works".
I've never seen a 'WPS' car at pleasant Prairie (and I live about 1/2 mile from the plant); every car I've seen in there, or delivered to there, had 'WEPX' (for Wisconsin Electric Power). I believe the 'WPS' cars are for the coal plants in northern Wisconsin (Wausau, Stevens Point, etc).
As to the origin of the term "KD" or "KD line," I always heard that it meant "Kenosha Diagonal" rather than "Kenosha Division."
Actually, the original name was the "Kenosha, Racine, & Rock Island RR" until it was sold to the C&NW on 1/7/1864. A general circular was distributed 6/10/1864 by C&NW president William B. Ogden stating, "That portion between Chicago and Fulton, and Chicago and Freeport
Interesting, is vulcan still running? And how long do you think it will be before UP get back the coal trains to the PP plant? Finall did the farm yard ever get sold?
The Rock Job is still operating (on duty around 1500). What has changed though is that the facility south of Bain that Vulcan opened a few years ago is now silent. There are a few hoppers stored on the tracks, but the huge mountains of rock that were there are now gone. The Farm yard was
Good omen: They just played the entire Bachianas Brazileras No. 2 by Villa-Lobos over the radio. Bonus points to anyone who figures out what connection that has with anything!
Is that the Brazillian version of "I've Been Working On The Railroad"?
