663 is back in Joliet, I caught it today. http://www.flickr.com/photos/24084206@N08/4121199998/ 657 was also present at Joliet Yard. http://www.flickr.com/photos/24084206@N08/4121200010/ I also caught 668. http://www.flickr.com/photos/24084206@N08/4121200070/\ This wasn't bad either! http://www.flickr.com/photos/24084206@N08/4121200084/ Lots of J orange and classic power today!
I don't talk about that stuff because if I mentioned it it'd take 20 pages. 5 incidents in 3 weeks is like nothing here, we get times where we get 5 incidents in ONE week here! I gotta throw my J and news reports in sometimes! I'm trying to keep tabs on where every J unit is at all times just for reference. Not only that, this news with 261 isn't just bad news for the midwest, the entire nation is effected by this one! We are losing one of the most beautiful engines to roam the rails
I see it as good and bad news. The good news is that the friends isn't dead and will look for another engine. The bad news is 261 going back to Green Bay. Yes, I know they said that they want 261 to run but I really don't think anyone is going to put the time into it that the Friends did. I think it'll end up getting stuffed and mounted, eventually getting put on display inside. Right now even if 261 is put back together it won't be able to run. It still has to go through the mandated
The thing is that I believe some of 261's parts came from the 265. I would think all parts that were borrowed will either be sent back to where they came from or used on whatever the Friends restores next. There are several possibilities out there for a guest next year. I heard SOO 2719 mentioned a couple times, I would think 2719 or sister 1003 wouldn't be bad substitutes next year. Of course, the one good thing about this is that we may get to see many different steam engines from many
Jordan, I already looked at those enough on Flickr! Hey I did catch 675 leading the Line Train. By the way, 660 was spotted leading a train up Byron Hill with WC 3018, so 660 is the 8th J to be reassigned to the WC, as 663 is now on the WC also. It's just a matter until Jordan's favorite unit, the 666 shows up!
Speaking of nicely putting situations, I'll nicely put this situation down. We can say goodbye to Milwaukee Road 261 in active service due to greed from NRM in Green Bay. I bet lots of people are gonna boycott the museum for this. I really don't have any interest in visiting the museum since a bunch of displays and a little loop train doesn't interest me. Rumors are flying that the ex-Friends of 261 group and IRM are close to getting 261's sister, 265 restored.
Well EJ&E 663 was spotted at Neenah recently, so that means Joliet loses another J to the WC side. The WC is up to 6 SD38-2s, while the J is down to 7 plus a SW1001 and 703. I know everyone up there loves seeing the Js, but this is exactly what I did not want to happen in Joliet. I really hope they don't start reassigning more Js up there now, but that seems to be the direction we're going. Soon the J is gonna be pretty much extinct in Joliet, all scattered across Wisconsin, Iowa and
I've seen some wild stuff on the EJ&E today as well as yesterday. Yesterday: Weird catch #1, CN SD60F with two test cars. http://www.flickr.com/photos/24084206@N08/4098992752/ Weird catch #2, Welded Rail Train http://www.flickr.com/photos/24084206@N08/4098992774/ Today: Weird catch #3, RDC 1501 http://www.flickr.com/photos/24084206@N08/4100266209/ Weird stuff!
Yeah, I wish I could be in Dolton right now! A business train ran today with a CN SD70M-2 and two IC business cars. I missed him because he was doing 10MPH over the 45MPH track speed when he hit the detector. That's THREE moves with passenger or ex-passenger equipment on them in two days on a line that hasn't seen passenger trains since practically the steam era. Oh well, I think the move with the SD60F leading outdoes that one. Joliet railfanning has been weird lately to say the least, but
Alec, I heard 662 payed New Brighton a visit a few days ago, one of two J-Balls currently active on the CN. Next time you are planning on going to Dolton shoot me a PM, cause you've been getting pretty darn lucky every time you've came down here and I wouldn't mind benefitting from that luck! I should go back to the CSX again. They still have some neat stuff running around. I've been too busy shooting the DM&E/IC&E and their six-packs of SD40-2s!
