About Harvey I Kahler

Active member and volunteer of Midwest High Speed Rail Association.
Started taking pictures w/ Kodak snapshot camera in 1955. Lost b/w shots of C&NW in Appleton, WI, and of CA&E between Garden Home and Villa Park, IL. Began using Dad's Kodak Retina in 1958 and switched to color slide film. Moved from Berkeley, IL to Des Plaines in 1959, bought a Canon TLb, and moved into Chicago in 1964.
Began working for the Chicago Area Transportation Study in 1965 while going to UIC. I graduated in 1974 and went to Europe for four weeks. Lived in Hammond, IN while working as a transportation planner for the Northwest Indiana Regional Planning Commission 1976-1986.
Began digital photography in 2004 with Canon 20D; but also transfering slides to digital with Nikon Cool Scan V.
Being over 65, the RTA free fare for seniors has been a God-send, especially on trips to the outer 'burbs for photography that could get rather expensive. High gas prices have discouraged going out of the Chicago area the past two years.
