All right all we'd reached the page limit in the other place so I started a new one.  Everything's on me, I haven't had the TOP for a while, so y'all eat, drink, and merry up on my tab, I've got it covered.

Woowee! That was almost as much fun as the roller coaster, Bama. Glad I grabbed onto the railing by the door! I see Chloe and Vinnie are straightening things up, so we're pretty much ready for late night snacks again.

Wonder where's Ulrich? Hope he finds the sign at the old location, since he'd been away a little bit. Probably has been organizing his fellow trainees at that conference thing he's been attending.

Since I need to find my way back home and get some Zzz, I'd best be heading out now. Chloe, Vinnie, I'll leave things in your capable hands till Zoe gets in in the morning.

Blessings,

Jeff,. Nice cabeese, by the way; does anybody still manufacture those?

The only ones I can find are made by Bachmann. These two 2 axle HO Scale bobbers are on the Bachmann site. Both are in the 'Silver Series' and have blackened metal wheels, body mounted couplers and non-magnetic axles so there's no lurching over uncoupling magnets. They come in two designs. One is the Maryland and Pennsylvania (Product #18439) and is red and the other is yellow and unlettered (Product #18447). Both retail for $15 each. There are some differences between the old and new designs. The newer models have two windows on each side and two windows in each side of the cupola whereas my older models have three windows on each side and four windows in each side of the cupola. Walther's carries several other Bachmann Bobbers. Weyerhauser Timber, Cass Scenic Railroad and Boston and Maine.

Good Morning!!Smile

Was not really hard finding the diner this time---all one had to do was watch for the breadcrumbs and the birds getting all excited--Whistling

We's be getting dull skies and those little tiny snowflurries with our high going all the way to -5C. Meanwhile just a few km west of us they will be getting sunny periods.Sigh Maybe one of those will pop up over hereWhistling---

Today will be recovering from doing a-caroling in our local mall and a nursing homeCool----when we got home I found the little 'Spring' was sleeping on the laptopWhistling--I left the dang thing on while we were doing that---Oops

Anyhoooo--we's be doing the same thing with a childrens hospital tonight then it'll be doing summat in the mall again---Smile

Chloe----I'll have a coffee and some toast with jam and a small pile of pancakes please---blackberry syrup will be just fine ------I'll be at the RC --Smile,Wink, & Grin

  "Morning Chloe"

Morning all,  notice ,,,  I'm not saying Good morning.  Reality can be your worst nightmare.  My day in laying track on cork was a disaster.  I used the Dap.. but the the Kwik Seal.  It came apart last night..then I reglued it.. and still this morning... coming apart. Cutting up 6 pieces of flexi.. and wasting them.. well, its going to get expensive.   I've gone back and re-read laying track on cork thread.  Seems I didn't buy the right glue.  In truth I'd thought it would hold.  It propably does hold well.. on a straight shot.  From  re-reading the other thread,  I'm out to the store today to buy some .. ah gheez .. I forgot already.. but I think it was some PolySeam Sealer.  Clear.  As far as the tips on laying track. Ray, I thank for your advice and I am getting a collection of things.. not to do.. when laying track..lol.  As far as everything else concerning the layout, well I have to go back and add re-railer's and aside from re-doing it.. well all I can say.. is, its taking time.. and I wanted to have something for the kids when the come home for the Holidays.  So, I'll be bummed and busy.

Jeff, I woke up this morning worried about your Christmas present.. If its under the tree it will get crushed.  and ruined. Open it up.. or put on the TV or some safe place. Keith

Hi Guys!

Hot ham and cheese sandwich for breakfast please, skip the egg.

JEFF  IIRC Strasburg Railroad in Strasburg PA has a real bobber caboose. It is as cute in person as it looks on the layout. It is short and cute and looks funny with two axles only.

Have PT for hands today. Yesterday was great with my back, but they also have me launching on a machine workout regimine that I think is to condition my body rather than target the affected areas. As I told my other half, it is effectively a free workout and I need ot loose 8 lbs to get backt o where I was last year so I won't complain too much.

Got one more thing to buy for xmas shopping , then I'm done. I'm looking for a not so expensive battery operated radio {maybe with a  CD player} for my other half....the car radio crapped out and at 18 y/o hte car is not worth putting too much back into- it already needs a new radiator. Unless I run into a few other items in the store. I have ordered some items online that may not be here in time, but oh well.

The prayer candle will be lit for part of the day who need it. Angel

Have a great day everybody!

Good Morning. Brrrrrrrr! COFFEE!! And biscuits and sausage gravy please. Could you throw some hash browns on the biscuits please. Thank you . 14 F right now supposed to get to 32 today. I'm glad I don't live in Canada. That means the HIGH today would only be zero! Too cold for me.

Well the ole' Steiger won't pull the Ripper. Grounds to froze and all it does is stall out. Oh it'll pull it but the gear would be so low it wouldn't work well. You should go at a certain speed fast enough to bust the ground instead of slowly tearing it. So that means I'm, hopefully, gonna take a YRF day. (that's Younger Retired F*rt day. Notice the younger and not just young.) Hopefully a bit of train time. That would be nice.

Robby- I remember that car and load. Do you recall the paint color or colors you used for the steel sheets?

That's a major problem I have. I cannot look at a color and usually tell you what colors are used to make it. Yes I can see all the colors just I don't know what color it is. Hard to explain unless you have what I have. (Says as she's refilling the coffee) "What's that? No brain?" Very funny Zoe. You been talking to Brenda?

Jim- I use Ailene's Tacky Glue for most everything you'd use white glue for. Attaching shrubs, leaves on trees, clear window glazing, people, you name it. It's great stuff, somewhat tacky, dries clearish, not very expensive at all, and is a lot cheaper than HobbyTac or like stuff. I would not use it however to dilute like you would Elmers for scenic glue. It's thick and tacky, and would be a touch more expensive. I recommend Ailene's Tacky glue highly for all sorts of things. It's in the arts and crafts section of Wally World. Probably in HL so the 40% coupon could be used and may even be cheaper yet. But still I think we're talking only a buck, buck and a half? Can't remember. There are 2 or three size bottles.

Keith- Word from the experienced! You want some track laid to run a train. DON"T RUSH IT!!!! Pleeease, don't rush it. You will, or probably will, regret it later if not sooner.

Why is there a straight jacket laying over there? Oh and why are there LARGE men in white sitting next to it? Hmmmmm. Some paper work. I can make out a name. Phili.....Shock

Have a Great Day!!!

PC  I hope you are kidding about riding in those temps, because cold tires, cold pavement, and possible ice patches do not make for a safe ride at all and especially on two wheels. That is why when we start getting frost on the roads and the colder temps to put ice patches down also, mine gets put up for the winter and I like to ride as much as the next guy.

Best to all on sick call and those recovering AngelAngelAngel

OK, last one out of the diner needs to make a note in big letters for people like me, I need all the help and guidance I can get…. :)

 Good morning all,

Jim, the PRR Lake Front dock here in Cleveland had 4 machines, not sure about other docks in Lake Erie.  I need to get some more walk around throttles before I buy more Huletts.

Those bobber cabooses are still made by Bachman, not much has changed since TYCO made them.  I have one painted red as my yard transfer caboose and I have one to pint yellow for the docks.

Flip, You can get a new copy of your DD214 from the county courthouse or the local VA office.

Vincent, paint the caboose and buy some new decals for it. CHAMPS still has some odd and end decals for sale cheap.

Todd...........The steel/styrene was already a grayish (kinda a dark gray) color.  So I didn't change anything.  I did add a light dusting of a mix of rust powders to the top of the load.  Just a very light dusting.   Let me know if your LHS has anything like that.  Maybe next weekend (weekend after christmas) I can get you a couple.

Well..... Finally!  Walks in, stomps snow off boots..... I've been wandering all over the yard looking for the place....  Knew it would get moved, but did they have to hide it behind the freight station????

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have that ham and cheese thingy like Galaxy is chowing out on but with the egg!  And a very large pot of dark roast coffee to warm me up.  I'll be at the back booth watching PC thaw out and making plans for us to go to Cuba Ice Camp this Winter (hopefully the ice will be thick enough that we can set up camp out in the middle of the lake.... Huh?  No, no, no!  Cuba, New York - that's where Cuba Cheese is made.....).

I see Al was in the forum for a very brief visit this morning.....

I need to start getting some gifts wrapped for Christmas Morning and still need to do a bit more shopping for some special items......

I'll be baaaaaaaaaacccccchhhhhh!

Good morning. It's 37 and partly cloudy. The high should be 50.

The Home Health nurse should be coming out sometime today to install my wound vacuum, change the dressing on my central line and do a general checkup. I also have a 2:15 appointment in town to get a Doppler scan done on my right leg. Maybe I can squeeze a little layout work in between.

Duke, I'll ride if there's no snow, ice, or frost (or fresh salt or sand on the road surface.....loose surfaces are not good at speed).  I also don't do rain and cold mixed.  Rain, no problem.  Cold, no problem.  Mixed, no way.  When doing winter riding, it's much like rain riding.  You have to ride very conservatively.  No steep lean angles, things like that.  As you know, I live in Indiana.  Last year I rode at least once every month all winter.  Some of those rides were short, but I did it.  (It's good for the bike too.)  Thats my goal this winter as well.

As far as the cold goes, if you're dressed properly, you honestly don't even feel the cold.  I have a full face modular helmet with a wind dam for my chin, a warm scarf, thinsulate lined jeans shirt, heavy (1.6 oz) naked buffalo leather jacket, thermal lined leather gauntlet gloves with heat pack pockets for air activated thermal packs to keep them toasty, heavy fleece lined jeans with thermal long johns, leather boots with heat reflecting soles designed by NASA with heat pockets for air activated thermal packs.  When I get off my bike, I'm just as warm as if I'd been in my car.

Good afternoon, I almost didn't make it in, I had to show multiple forms of ID to some guys in white coats, with a straight-jacket... Something about Phillip, motorcycles, and midwest arctic-cold winters...

Welp, I pulled in last night just in time to watch the switcher pull the Diner away, followed the markers to the new location. Walked on in, said some truly brilliant things, made some amazing observations...then found myself laying in a snowbank outside looking up at a big sign saying "OOPS! Something went wrong." Black Eye

Then, I couldn't get back in...did Vinnie lock the door?

Oh well.

ROBBY P: IF you find yourself in the attic, and IF you come across some "bugs," we'll make it worth the effort...somehow. No hurry though, none whatsoever. Oh, and a big THANK YOU in advance! Nice job on the steel loads, by the way.

BAMA CSX: Thanks for ordering and overseeing movement of the Diner...very well done Sir.

KEITH: Sounds like a "wonderful" time with the cork... Sorry, I don't have any words of wisdom other than to echo TODD's "take your time."

JEFF: Good luck on the day's medical procedures, interesting bobbers. What's THAT Chloe? NO, I am NOT commenting on your bobber........ WHAT??? NO! They're little cabooses. HUH? I did NOT just comment on your caboose... Oh brother.Blush

I think its time to exit, stage left.....

PC  I understand about dressing for it because I have ridden in some pretty cold weather myself and have told others that it isn’t any different then riding a snowmobile, just dress for it. My concern is that cold tires and cold pavement do not make a good mix so please make sure you have a safe ride. Oh, and by the way I live a little further North than you and at times we get more of the nasty stuff then you do.

Vincent, I hear ya on exams. My grade in spanish is to where if I got a zero on the exam, I'd probably get a 70-something for the semester. Which is a decent grade, but I'm hoping I at least passed the exam.

Had an exam today, and I either passed w/ flying colors or epically failed. There were maybe 30 or 40 problems dealing w/ molar mass, and either I did the equations or reverse, so either I got 'em all right or all wrong.

Tomorrow I have 3rd and 7th exams, then I'm FREE!

Hey Tom, we had a Christmas assembly today. You probably would have liked the choir part of it, but for me, the band absolutely blew them out of the water Big Smile Had a great band at Schofield last year, looks like all those awesome ppl.s have funneled into AHS

Jim, thank you for the encouragement on the exams. My two toughest are tomorrow.

Good afternoon. I finally got all my stuff for today done. The Home Health nurse came by 'around noon' as they call it. Actually about 1 and fitted me up with the wound vac. It took over an hour because she couldn't get it a tiny leak stopped. About 2:10 I finally said it would have to do because I had to take off for my Doppler scan, which I was late for. I got that done then went to the food stamp office to turn in my paperwork there then to the library then to the gas station to get gas for the car, my mother's treat. Tomorrow morning I have to go into town to get my eyes dilated and checked. I'm not looking forward to that at all. In the afternoon I have to go back to get an MRI done. Fun, fun.

Here's a peek at my new favorite pest.

Sawyer, the exam was way to easy. I nailed all 50 questions in 15 minutes. But I am Free from college for a few weeks!!! Which means I can get more hours at work, thus, more money for trains.

Chris, what'd I do?

Vincent

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Grilled chicken with mushrooms, onions, and a side of steamed veggies, please.

***Vincent, CONGRATS on the exam. More time for work and money it brings for trains is also a good thing.

***Jeffrey, did the wound vac ever get worked out, or will the nurse have to return to finish the job? I don't envy your medical shedule.

Respiratory therapist comes out to the farm tomorrow to set me up with the Bipapa machine. Hope it helps. I've now lost 15.5 lbs since adopting the caveman diet (as I call it). Wish it was all fat, but there is muscle loss, too. Perhaps some of that is from no longer being able to workout. Wife just prays it isn't lymphoma. Me, too!

Cut some little pieces of playwood and glued them to the bottom of that last model trailer. When that dries, it will make it a snap glueing the skirt around the outsides.

Hope everyone is doing well.

The minor leak seems to have worked itself out. The nurse will be back on Friday. I wouldn't wish my medical problems on my worst enemy, though there are some people whom I could single out to enjoy the experience. The problems I post on here are only some of what I've got going on.

Good Evenin', Chloe - I'll have a turkey sandwich with the veggies and some of that mayo-miracle-stuff on it, and a CAW mug of coffee please, with a slice of apple pie (on plate, yes) and a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top of the pie. Thanks!

Anybody know why Vinnie was chasing Chris down the tracks as I came in? Was it something he said?... Shock

Jeff. thanks for the info on the Bachmann bobber cabeese. I did a search online and found out that Kadee makes a kit (kinda rare for them) of a bobber, and it only runs about $5 more than the Bachmanns. I may get one for my mining or logging runs come next payday (or maybe after the start of the year; I still have property taxes to pay...). Hey, did you add personnel inside that bobber, or did it come that way? Looks nice (though I'm sure OSHA would have something to say about that!). With your new best buddy there, do you slide your foot under it, or what?Confused

PC, I'm with the Duke and the others about that riding in 12 F weather - not counting the 60 mph wind chill (on top of the 'standing still' wind chill..). Brrrrr!! It might get you sent home early, but with a side trip to see the shrink for an assessment... Smile,Wink, & Grin

Galaxy, I'm envious (no, not of the free w**kout, though that's kinda neat) - you have your shopping about done? Shock Goddness, man - you'll give all the Diners with wives or girlfriends trouble if their CFO's think that this is when most guys get the shopping done! Black Eye

Todd, what can you do, when the ground is froze over that hard? Guess the only thing left to do is MRR'ing in the basement, huh?...Whistling

Keith, with that much trouble on the tracklaying, I'd be re-thinking about just spiking the track down (or get the AMI roadbed DerJohn was talking about), just to avoid all the aggravation of having to re-do yet one more time. Need to figure something that will continue to hold the track without letting go. Yeah!!

Lee - yeah, when I went looking for info on the Huletts, I saw that Cleveland port had four of those puppies (and they are BIG!!). How much more space will you need for the boats, in addition to the dock and the Huletts?

Vincent, I'll second Lee's suggestion of Champ Decals - have ordered from them in the past a couple of times and they have most everything you can imagine, plus they're quick on getting the orders out to you. Good folks! Oh, they have (if it's still available) a book that shows where various decal sets go on different freight cars (which for a dumiezel (my German spelling isn't güt...) Dunce like me, is quite helpful)

Sawyer - got our last two on the AngelAngel list. Hope you did great on the ones earlier in the week, even if you don't absolutely need to in order to pass.

Rob - on your trailer 'skirt footing' idea, EXCELLENT!! (I think I'll steal it to use with mine, too) I didn't see, had your local stations carried the piece yesterday about the new (smaller) CPAP mask/fitting? I went looking for a link to post, but couldn't find the article on their website yet. Maybe tonight...

I'm hoping for a night that's "all is calm, all is quiet...". On-call time this evening and the next 2, then the *weekend*!! Thumbs Up

Hope that everyone's coming along well with their Christmas preparations. Think I'll see about ducking outside and get a photo or two of my Christmas lights from there, and another inside shot.

Blessings and prayers,

Moved again, I see.

Jeff, I like the bobbers. Do some of the figures represent some of the diners? That must be Todd on the platform. Who's that guy chowing down all of those jumbo bergers and fries? Barry? ..I'm not sure, but is that somebody sleeping in the back corner? Who could that be?  .... hmmmm... we could have some fun with this one.

Also, Jeff .. continued prayers for your health.

Vincent ... you're in college. What are your studying?

Barry .... You're really chowing down on those burgers and fries!

Duke and PC .... Um, cars have windows and heaters. Try a car next time in the cold weather.

Someone mentioned Kukla, Fran, and Ollie .... I recall them. That was before color TV. ... It may have bee nblack and white, but at least the programming in those days was appropriate for all family members.

I'm still getting into DCC. It's not a perfect world. One decoder ws defective. Today, the program circuit quit in my DCC unit and I can't program on the prgram track as a result. For now, I have 4 SD's, 4 Baldwin diesel switchers, and 2 steam switchers programmed. That is plent for the one part of the layout wired for DCC.

Happy Model Railroading

It has a shoulder strap and is carried like a shoulder bag. There's a foam pad in the wound that abuts another pad that runs a little way up my ankle to a plastic vacuum tube that runs up beneath my pants leg to the vac unit. The foam padding is sealed with adhesive backed film so a suction is created through the foam to draw the air and liquid out of the wound. The suction sets up a negative pressure causing the positive pressure outside to force the wound closed on the foam. That's as much as I can say about it without somebody losing their last meal.

The figures came with the caboose. Somebody went to the trouble of installing them sometime in the past.
