N scale Amtrak Superliner scale length

I am getting back into model railroading and I am in the early stages of planning for a new n scale layout. I have searched the internet and cannot find how long an Amtrak Superliner is....85' prototype, but how long in inches on my layout? The reason I ask is so I can finalize passing sidings and such. My layout will be an L shaped shelf style point to point. How long should I make a siding for two P42 locos, baggage car and 4 Superliners? Thanks in advance for the help.

American N-scale is 1:160. 85' / 160 = 0.53125' = 6.375".

Re: N scale Amtrak Superliner scale length

hi,

add some extra length for the couplers, and your passing siding must be almost 4 feet long. And when accepting a 1:3 ratio you will apply a  3 x 6.375 = 19" radius.

Thanks for that tid bit Paul, it's helpful. I've reskinned a few curves in plans to larger curves for modern engines but forgot about the longer modern equipment. What length should be used for coupler length? It was mentioned but no number given. My XtrCAD program keeps adding 1/8 inch for coupler length but it seems a little shallow.
