 We have moved on! The switcher was just uncoupled and the crew here in the Diner is cleaning up the mess, as some cups and mugs were not stowed away properly and the ride was a little bumpy.

Today´s drinks are on me!

Well, well.....we've done the "Chloe & Zoe Shuffle" again and found us a new track to park on.  Good enough!

So here I sit in the middle of the night with a massive headache, unable to sleep.  Over the counter meds are of little help, but I leave the wifes stash of good stuff alone......she needs it more then I do.

Speaking of that.........

My wife and son are both having surgery later this week again.  Some of you may remember the last round about 2 years ago (has it really been that long?).  These 2 surgeries shouldn't be as tough though. 

My wife is getting the screws (all 5 of them) taken out of both legs.She'll be tender for a while, and not near as entertaining at airport and government building security checkpoints, but it should help her in the long run.  The screws have been really bothering her whenever the weather changes, which in Indiana, is like every two minutes.  Anyways, thats supposed to happen Tuesday.

My son is having the surgery my wife should've had when she was his age.  His kneecaps are off to the side a little like hers were.  I guess if they catch it before the growth plates are done they can make a small incision on the side of the knee and relieve some tension somehow and the kneecap will usually move over on it's own.  That means that he may not have to go through that really painful surgery my wife did.  This surgery is an outpatient surgery and he's supposed to be able to walk the same day.  That surgery is scheduled for Thursday.

As with any surgery that they have, because of their medical condition, there is a greatly heightened risk whenever they're put under.  Many times patients with their condition just don't wake up after surgery, so it's always a concern.  The good part is, they know where they'll go if they don't wake up.  They know that they're going to heaven to be with God.  And with that, I, make that "we", trust that whatever the outcome, it'll be to God's glory.  He's in control!

Now, I think it's important to note that prayer does change things.  As such, if you're someone who knows God, I'd ask for your prayers this week for my wife and son.  This will undoubtably be a tough week for them.

 Good morning.

It's 47 and clear with a nice looking full moon. The high will get up to about 72 and it will remain clear.

Got up this morning and turned the heater on for about 10 minutes to take the chill off. I don't really have much planned for today with the exception of using some of my alcohol/black acrylic weathering agent to weather some freight cars. I have to mix up a new batch of the stuff first. It took me about half an hour to find the squeeze bottle of FolkArt pure black paint last night. I was thinking I might have to go to Wal-Mart to get a new one. I looked for it in all the usual places then remembered I'd put it in an Atlas box on top of the refrigerator. Sure enough, there it was. I shook it to make sure it's still liquid. It's still good. I've had instances where the paint had dried in the bottle. If I had to get another bottle it wouldn't be too bad. It's less than $2 for a 2 ounce bottle. I must remember though to mix it with the 70% alcohol. The 91% stuff does strange and not so wonderful things to the cars paint job, like remove it.

    Love the new siding and it even has a parking lot adjacent so PC and Duke don't have to scavenge wood to prop up the bike stands.

PC - consider it done. I know it's tough to sleep with all that stuff on your mind but I'm sure it will work out for the best. We'll keep your family in our prayers. Will your son still be able to keep active in sports? And if the CFO can no longer predict the weather with her knees, you can always get her a home weather station. Someones got to clue you in it's too snowy to ride, no?

Ulrich - thanks for arranging the move. Did we use the 44 tonner or did you also arrange the loan of one of your "toasters" in a guest appearance? As you w..k through the papers are you keping track of the number of pens you're using up?

   Got a lot done on the Focus over the weekend. Can't see any frame damage though I did find a bent strut and rim to go along with the loose wheel bearing and ruined drive axel. Not so bad. I already had a spare Wings West nose cone and just need a fender, windscreen and the air bags along with the suspension bits to finish up. Ditto the house. Spent time tidying up and clearing the garage yesterday plus sorting out boxes of stuff. Did have one setback as the drain from the house to the sewer needs replacing. After the Rotorooter guy snapped his snake we surmised a tree root has pierced the line and it now leaks. Just another round of permits and more digging in the front yard.

    Lots to do again this week. The semi leaves for Daytona and Sebring today and I need to drop a car for paint work plus get ready to send more motors out for rebuild. Better get to it.  CUL, J.R.

PC .... Yes, I do recall your wife and son having surgery. Of course, I will pray for them this week. It is good to pray thanks for the medical procedures that make it possible to correct such problems.

LEE .... Thanks. I have childhood memories of seeing the Burma Shave signs sitting in the back seat of the Buick as we traveled in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, and kansas before the interstate highways were built.

JEFF ... I have also had trouble with rubbing alcohol messing up paint. After experimenting, I decided to simply thin the acryliics with water, and that works best for me.

 Good "frosty" morning.  Yeah its about 35deg. right now.  Kinda cool.  The high will be about 55deg, and later this week, the high only in the low 40's.  Pretty cool!!!!

 I see we have moved the diner.  How many miles does this one have now.  Might wanna check the wheels.

 Not much planned today.  Clean up some, and maybe weather up a Chessie 6-bay hopper.

(ching ching) Zippity do da, zipity ay, My oh my what a wonderful..... Oh, morning all. Say great spot, this is closer to were I come in than the other one.

Today: Partly sunny, with a high near 61. West southwest wind around 10 mph becoming north northwest. Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 32. North northwest wind between 5 and 10 mph.

Alright I've got a question. When I got home last night I couldn't help but notice some one had painted a clown face on me with chocolate pie filling. Now I'm not mad, just a little upset knowing that a guy can't even take a little nap without some one pulling a childish prank. Oh look, is that a crack in the ceiling? (quickly and unseen, slips a whoopee cushion under the seat cushion at the rivet counter) Must have been the light.

Math. I took Algebra I and II. Geometry and Trig. Geometry I found a use for, at least some of it. JR can tell you, If you're doing more than just repairing cars or trucks, (dare I say building them?)Some Geometry is a must. The rest I haven't used that I know of just to help the kids with their homework. Same with Literature and English.

Philip- Rest assured my thoughts and yes, my prayers will be with your wife and son this whole week. I've already started, just sent one up after I read your post this morning. You also are included my friend. Now relax, they are in the best hands they could be and I'm not talking earthly hands. (I know, easier said than done.)

Oh I see we have our first picture up on the wall, That's one of my favorite scenes on Jeff's layout.

Garry- I have some Burma Shave signs too. I have to find a place for them yet though. So far I don't, but because I like them, the way my world works, it'll happen. The only thing I have to decide is do I make them look old and neglected, or do they still exist in the modern era, or.... has the local historical society restored them. Hmmm, now there's a thought.

See how that works? A Reason for most anything in MY world.

I take that back, I do use a Calculus. I like to keep my mind in math shape but it sure does make things a bit faster at home to use the Calculus.

Mornin' Chloe, you don't look happy......  Well I guess it would have to have been a long night what with the diner getting moved to new track. Looks like everybody did a nice job of getting everything back in place.  Well I got woken up a couple of times by the sound of some diseaseally thing going glub,glub, glub....... outside, and that blatty horn.  just ain't the same as one of those Berks' whistles. (shakes head)  Anyway I'll just have a raisin bran muffin and lots of dark roast coffee to wke me up and I'll sit right here at the BBrrrrroooooooooop!  All right who's the wise guy!  Bet Todd has already been here hasn't he.

Philip your wife, son and you are all in my prayers this week for a safe successful round of surgeries.  I remember the last ones a couple years ago. 

Like most of the rest, I took Algebra, Geometry, and Trig in High School.  Never took Calculus as I decided to become a musician and only have to know how to count to 4 (well sometimes 12, but that is really 4 anyway just divided into 3 parts each...... but we have to know how to deal with with things like hemi semi demi quavers and ala brev and all that).  Any of you understand the mean tone system of a perfect 5 over 3 as the median....  Just music stuff....   I can honestly say I only remember having to solve for x or y a couple of times in my adult life, but I am still glad that I took algebra.   It offers insights into a variety of reasoning and thinking skills that I have used all my life.  Actually it has been said that "music is pure mathematics" (Plato).  In fact the two subjects that are known to have success in one be a predictor of success in the other are......  math and music.

Garry, we have a set of Burma Shave signs along the tracks at the museum.  Not originals though.

I have just a couple of must do, and a few should do items today, so I should get going.

Well guys its the day, we go to the doctor in a little while and find out whether or not we're going to the hospital to have Mikayla or not... (we're both hoping that he sends us over there, I dunno how much longer I can stand having Amy in the mood she's in).  Not a whole lot on my plate today except for going to the doc's.  I may be able to get back here a little later today and give an update, but I dunno what exactly we will be doing. 

Chloe, if you don't mind, I'd love a plate of buttermilk pancakes and a side of sausage please ma'am, and yes ma'am, with a tall glass of milk.  I'll sit back in the corner booth and see whom else strolls in. 

Hey y'all, since I'm blathering on, I was wondering if anyone has any good sources where I might be able to find a somewhat in-depth history of the (now CSX, former SCL, ACL) Bow Line?  I've looked a lot and I've been able to find some basic beginning history, but that is about it.

 Did the weathering on the two new hoppers this morning. They're not so bright now.

the sun has already set  over here. We are about on the same latitude as Anchorage, so the days are already really short!

Zoe, may I have one of your famous sun downers - the Switchman´s Nightcap?

A busy day, lots of red tape and no end in sight. All I can do is to tackle each hurdle - step by step. Petra and I went to see the job counselor, who has "summoned" us to see him, but had no time for us...  Tomorrow I have to attend a class on how to write a successful CV ...  All of these measures are just a pure waste of time and money, but there is nothing to be done against it.

We are now waiting for the countersigned rental contract, so I can schedule the move, figure it will be around the 20th, now.

For the young ones here - at my time, you could not elect a class, they were all compulsory. So I had to take Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus - with all the works! Although my later studies at university were pure math, I did not understand  a thing during highschool -  In addition to that, I had English, Latin, German, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Social Science and History. My highschool days on Bainbridge Island were like a holiday camp for me, unfortunately I had to make up all the stuff upon my return to Germany.
