I received an E mail from Dave Rygmyr saying that they are currently testing their new gears for the Bachmann Shay. If all testing goes well, they plan to announce them within a month or so.
It can't happen soon enough for me!

Yeah,
I really like Bachmann's value. But their drive gears are "wanting" to say the least. I haven't had a one that hasn't failed. And getting replacements for just the gears is a nightmare. Thank goodness for the lifetime warranty.

What scale are you talking about -- Bachmann makes a G scale Shay, On30 Scale, HO scale, and N scale.
YEEHAA!! I CAN'T WAIT!!!!

Considering it's only the HO Shays that had the gear problem (as far as I know), I'm pretty sure they're the ones we're talking about.

Hi all,
Dave here from NWSL. We've test run the replacement steel driveline gears we're making for the HO scale Bachmann 80-ton Shay and they work like we'd hoped. They should be ready in about 2-3 weeks. The set of 6 replacement gears will be $24.95. Thanks!
$25 to get a brass quality steam engine running perfect? Totally worth it.
Thanks, NWSL! I can hardly wait to get my Shay running smoothly!
Although I haven't had an issue with my 2 Bachmann Shays (3 years old) Kudos for NWSL for coming to the rescue of so many others.
I plan on picking up several more shays, so a couple of sets of the NWSL gears will be in my future.

My Shay does not have problems - knock-knock on some wood - but now I know there is the solution if something cracks!
Some of the large scale Shays will crack a gear even if you look at them wrong.
A follow up from another forums.
I just read this on a yahoo group and it was posted by Dave of NWSL. groups.yahoo.com/group...sage/49554 Looking for an HO Bachmann Spectrum Climax I'd like to pick one of these up for myself, but Bachmann had discontinued them and I can't seem to find one. Help? Yes, we're working on replacemnt gears for this unit but all the units I have here belong to others and I have to return them. I'd like one of my own to run to death in a test stand, like we're doing for the Bachmann 80-ton 3-truck Shay. Speaking of the Shay, the test went well so we should have a set of six steel replacement driveline gears ready in a couple of weeks. (Just replaces the tiny gears on the side drivelines; these work just fine with the factory plastic wheel gearing.) $24.95 for a set of 6. If you have the chance to pick up any non-running units cheap, now might be a good time to add some motive power to your roster... Thanks! If you ever fall over in public, pick yourself up and say “sorry it’s been a while since I inhabited a body.” And just walk away.
If anyone on here has replaced a gear on one of these engines before I owuld love to know how to do so, i currently have a shay that needs work on the gears. is it a hard process? Thanks

My dad did our shay and highly recommends watching this utube video. Its not overly hard to do he said but patience will be tested with small parts. Good lighting and clean work surface helps if you drop a gear, dad used white sheet layed over a christmas shirt box to keep track of parts easily. Good luck it isnt impossible to do for a beginner like my dad and he says go for it.

You are attempting to hijack a very old discussion. You should start your own discussion. Contact Dave at NWSL. He does respond to email. I gave the link some years ago.
Also, join the Bachmann HO forums and also check the Bachmann Parts list for the loco. I just looked at the parts for that loco.
There are some with this loco.

Yes, NWSL is very good at responding to emails along with being very helpful while offering excellent advice for modelers. They are an excellent firm!

It may be an old thread but still a relevant discussion and need.

Jeez it's not like he asked how to regear his BB Athearn.
I am interested in this too. I have a NIB DC Bachmann Shay. It looks to me that these regear kits are no longer available. Has anyone ordered one lately?
