Several old sayings come to mind:
"One man's trash is another man's treasure."
"Patience is a great virtue."
"Something is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it."
I like that Plasticville Factory, and yes they tend to be pricey. Then I found one still sealed in the box for $10.00. I got my dual motored A-A Golden State Alco's for under $80, when they are fetching close to $200 (or more) curretnly on eBay.
So many of my trains started off as junk... I get teased about that a lot. I get pretty excited when I get a good junker that I wanted. My friends laugh and say they've never seen anyone get so happy over a piece of junk. I tell them that's because they see it as it is and I see it as it soon will be.
I'm not trying to go too far off topic, but so many of my engines were either low-end units of little value or junkers. And today they run like champs, pull as well (and sometimes better) as more expensive so-called better locos, look great with added details and have never had to be sent out for service. And they didn't cost an arm and a leg. Not bad for junk, huh?
