Re: Strasberg Railroad

I must admit, i am IN LOVE with Strasburg.  It is a fantastic operation.  Theres just something about the atmosphere there that just makes it special.  I cant put my finger on it but it is a very very special place. Almost has a "Shinning time station" feel to it, and if you didnt know, was actualy used in a Thomas movie.

And for those who havent done this before, where your at Strasburg, drive off to one of the crossing and take about 2 steps into a field....  its a wonderful transforation as it actual feels as if you have steped off into another dimension of time..  long long ago...

Heres a few shots from my last trip there...

Those are really nice pictures, it's funny you should mention about feeling like your back in time, while I was there I too had that feeling.

Re: Strasberg Railroad

Another thing about Strasburg PA is that you are in the heart of Amish Country and will see people using horse drawn carts on the main roads, except roads like 222 or the turnpike. They also use horse drawn plows, may see somebody using an old plow if you take the train at Strasburg.

If you truly want that "time capsule" feeling, drive over to Orbisonia, PA.

Re: Strasberg Railroad

The East Broad Top is another railroad that has that time feeling. But keep in mind that Strasburg is probably the top tourist steam operation on the East Coast. EBT does a good job with what they have availible to them.

It's my understanding that EBT has struggled in recent years. Maybe someone more familiar with the road can fill in better.

Re: Strasberg Railroad

A decade ago they had 4 steamers up and running.  This year they only had one from what I can tell.  A decade ago EBT partnered up with the US PARK SERVICESign - Dots [#dots]

Re: Strasberg Railroad

I havent been to EBT yet, as their operation is limited, and im usualy pretty busy durring the summer.  Im going to try and make it out there this year, and support them with a few ticket purchases.  I have a video series with EBT in it and it looks like a really neat area....  lots to take pictures of.
