Re: Franklin Park Railroad Daze

According to the Franklin Park newspaper website

http://www.pioneerlocal.com/franklinpark/news/376182,fp-railroad-050907-s1.article

"All aboard

But the spotlight of the festival is on the trains.

The cars will be on display from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 19. Supplying the cars will be the Canadian Pacific, Canadian National, Belt Railway of Chicago, Indiana Harbor Belt, CSX and Metra, the suburban commuter rail line.

Additional information about Railroad Daze is available by calling the hotline at (847) 671-8258.

Making a special appearance at the Operation Lifesaver booth will be Dr. Barry Kaufman, whose "Healthy Minute" segments are heard on WBBM-AM 780.

Operation Lifesaver is a non-profit, international public education program first established in 1972 to end collisions, deaths and injuries at places where roadways cross train tracks, and on railroad rights-of-way, according to information provided by the organization.

Its programs are sponsored by federal, state, and local government agencies; highway safety organizations, and the nation's railroads."

I wouldn't rule out UP sending a engine. They have sent a engine every year I have been going (including the MoPac heritage engine last year). Maybe CN will send the business train and the IC E9s again. I've seen some surprizes at Franklin Park for this event such as a Vermont Railway engine that was just out of rebuild at NRE. Yes, the event right near the Metra station and is a easy walk from there.

Omigosh! Barry Kaufman is a dentist! How does that tie into Operation Lifesaver or railroading?

"Hi! I'm Barry Kaufman!!  I used to be a dentist and I'd like you to know that if you get hit by a train you'll get your teeth knocked out.  At the very least. So be health wise and be careful crossing the tracks.  Back to you Felicia."

The UP's A-B-A E9 set arrived at Proviso yesterday, dead in an intermodal train and without any passenger cars.  They might be UP's contribution this year.  And don't rule out 1995 just yet.

Carl, my wife and I discussed FPRRD this morning and will likely be there as I want to see the U.P. E-9 set up close for myself.

Re: Franklin Park Railroad Daze

Good luck to both of you, Racine and Jim.  I've got a sort of confirmation that the E9s will be there (they'll be as close as Bensenville in time for the event; what CP does with them once they get 'em won't show up on my radar).  Meanwhile, I'll be occupied a few short miles away, unable to get over that way.

As for the 1995, if they keep using it like they have been, it will be arriving at Council Bluffs on Saturday.

I have a very good feeling the Es will be there. Why else would they be at Proviso? Now if CN sends the IC E9s again we will be set! No matter what is there, I'll be there Saturday.
