I just did an Excel list of all my locos and put a replacement value on each for the insurance company. I feel out of my chair when I saw the total, I sure hope the wife doesn't see it.

Two Spectrum 2-8-0 Consolidations
Three Spectrum 2-10-0 Decapods
One Spectrum 3-truck Shay
One Proto 2000 0-8-0 Switcher
Looking to buy an other one or two 2-8-0 or 2-10-0's, maybe a light Mike.

NOT ENOUGH!!!

I've got probably 8 diesels and three stemaers. The steamers are all broken down needing repairs.

I just got all my cars and engines out on the track. Once I get everything put together I'll need an F7B powered in UP to help pull a passenger consist, an F3B powered in ATSF to help pull another passsenger consist, another Proto 2000 SD-7 in D&RG to pull a string of ore cars, a dirty old switcher (ever see them clean?), and at least one large articulated just because. Maybe another SD40 to help out the one I have pull freight.

8 assorted Alco diesels
5 switchers
10 F7s
and 3 steamers

My favorite is the NW J class. It's the most beautiful engine I ever seen.

Short answer, TOO MANY!
Literally, I have the S-3 doubled up with a dayliner.
2 SD40-2s just sit in the yard, and don't get me started on the shelved units!

That is also when I last attempted to count them. About 10 years ago I began an inventory for the insurance company. When I got to a certain number I got scared and stopped counting. Since then I've kept a yearly count in Excel, so it that doesn't seem too high.
So in that sense my roster is seven:

Broadway Limited 4-8-4 - Santa Fe #3757 (Favorite)
Broadway Limited E7 - Wabash
Atlas Trainmaster - NYC (going to re-paint shop)
Atlas SD24/6 - BN
Proto 2000 2-8-8-2 - NP
Athearn Genesis SD70 - BNSF Green Warbonnet (the only junk of the fleet)
Proto 2000 E6AB - Santa Fe

i got 2 because i had alot of modern diesels (about 10) and downsized cos i was moving back in time and nothing fitted the era so i got 2 p2k locos a S-3 and SW-9 but lookin to add another 2 or 3 p2k or atlas early geeps even though i only need one loco for my 4x8 layout but oh well cant help it can you

I have about 80, all but 7or 8 are steam. Most are assembled, but about 15 are still in kit form.

A local guy, (Detroit area) had almost a thousand engines the last time I saw his collection, about 10 years ago. [:O] No intention to build a layout, just one whole wall full of shelves with engines on them. Now that's a serious collector!!

I've been collecting for 40 years, about 2 a year average doesn't seem too excessive!!

Favorite, Oriental Limited PowerHouse series 2-4-4-2. Took me 15 years to find, but it was worth the wait!![:D]

I have 32 locos.

Favorite steam: Pennsy K4s (just got a T1--uh oh)
Favorite electric: Pennsy GG1 (is there any other?)
Favorite diesel: Pere Marquette E7A (not a Pennsy!)

Sounds like someone I know in the Troy area, but he has a great layout (ops there tongiht). Tons and tons of locos, biggest collection I've ever seen.

I guy I knew way back was trying to collect one of everything BN had at the time. He had slides of just about the whole roster. The scary thing was he was pretty close on diesel collection too.

I guess he rubbed off on me a little as I easily have over 100 (don't tell my wife!). Just picked up an SD90MAC last week (flew to Texas and just had to get one).
