RE: Do you have a Layout under your Christmas Tree: Revisited

I set up an older tree of ours in my room the other day, and it may be getting the trains around it next year. It's nice to have about a foot of space under the tree in which to put a train and presents.

Besides that, I bought two strings of brand new vintage Noma brand C7 lights to put on the tree, and have tracked down about 3 more(used for next year). There's something about the 50+ strings of lights going on a tree that will hopefully have a 50+ year old Lionel train around it next year.

In the mean time, here's the way-too small loop of track that can't go under the tree

Compared to its larger cousing last year, which lack of furniture re-arranging prevented setting up this year

And the tree that may get the train next year

And the boxes for the two vintage strings of lights that cover it

Angry [:(!] RE: Do you have a Layout under your Christmas Tree: Revisited

Hello, i am currently in n scale which doesnt deal with steamengines that have smoke, However for christmas i have a lionel 442 steamer that goes around my tree, i just bought it this year and it says that it smokes, it comes with a little while and black squrit tube, (that leaks) ive ran the train about a total of mabye 10 hours. and ill notice that sometimes a little somke will come out here and there, but its barely noticiable, only thing noticable is the smell. So im wondering if anyone out there knows about how these engines smoke, and how to get more out of em/ or is it the smoke, or is it the engine, just me. I love to watch steamers smoke, and im kinda dissapointed that its not presnt as much as i would like, also i have found that if i leave it in neutral i will see this white smokey bubble form and a ton will come out, after that its back to nothing, okay well, ill wait for a reply

thanks, and have a great christmas everyone

Tim

It aint a tree without a lionel!

Tim,
It sounds like you may have too much smoke fluid in it. My suggestion is to let it drain upside down onto a paper towel overnight, and then add two or three more drops of fluid before running it again. After doing this, it should smoke fairly well.

Hehehe, that reminds me. The first year I was married I put an N-scale layout under our new "first" Christmas tree. It was a big tree and one couldn't even see the train if they were looking for it. The next year I moved to O-Scale (two rail) for the Tree-Train.

For years as a kid I used to setup my old AHM HO set under the tree, until my little sister came along and stepped on the loco when she was 2 [:0]

Last year I bought a Bachman G scale set to put around the tree, just set it up yesterday. It takes up a bit of space, probably should have gone with O, but the kids (and the cats) love it. [:D]

RE: Do you have a Layout under your Christmas Tree: Revisited

I have two, both of which are currently mothballed due to a rambunctious 2-year old...

One is a roughly G-scale plastic batter-powered thing. Bought it at a garage sale for $1 specificaly for Xmas tree duty. Last year it went fine, this year, the 2-year old is far too mobile and we'll go train-less.

Next year or after, when he's a little more restrained in his "youthful enthusiasm" it'll go back. Then, probably around the age of 6-8, the vintage Lionels will come back out. Those are _certainly_ staying safely packed away until he's older...

One of four that are set up at Christmas. It's an LGB that turned 20 years old this year.

Yes!

I have an LGB G gauge running around the tree. I don't have my garden railroad built yet, so I look forward each year to Christmas so I have an excuse to have the train set-up in the living room.

That's the main reason I bought one of the inexpensive Lionel Chistmas sets. Looks and runs great- has that newer ballasted snap track, have no idea what Lionel calls it, but beats the old stuff.

We sure do have a train around the tree. It is an On3 running on E-Z track. Really works good. All the cars are lit. It is great fun with the tree and the Dept 56 buildings. The grandkids love it. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!![:D][:D][:D][:D]

Wow, that is a little more than "under" the Tree.

Mine is not under the tree. A 4x4 layout for Christmas. Happy Holidays when they get here.
