Has anyone built and placed Walther's Milwaukee Station on their Layout?
If you have built and/or placed the Walther's Milwaukee Station on their layout, I would be most interested to see your
results. (Even if you're still building). I have one and will either be kitbashing it or using it full sized. Any
additional tips for it's construction would also be appreciated. I've seen one magazine article and there were warnings
regarding the 3 separate roof sections being troublesome and some slight wall warpage. Thanks.

I recall someone here was in the process of building one, and was doing some AMAZING interior detailing along the way. You may try to search for that somehow.

I have the model but plan on modding it into the IC central station depot of Chicago. I'm learning there are similarities and differences so the mod job is a lot bigger.

Hopefully, I have succeeded in attaching a photo of my completed station.
I have installed the completed station on my layout as the highlight of a passenger station area that I designed to vaguely resemble the Dearborn Station complex in Chicago. If interested, I could post more pictures of this portion of the layout which includeds the shed and an extended shed frame work without the roof.
The construction of the building was pretty straight forward. The only problem that I encountered was with one of the roof sections that left a gap at the end where it meets one of the side walls. I solved that problem by spreading a layer of JB Pro Weld over the affected area, then painting it to match the rest of the roof, so it is no longer noticeable.

Is that who was the one that was detailing the floors and walls, and installing the interior lighting? I can't for the life of me recall who's model that was.

It may have been. He just got finished adding another three level 20' addition to his layout. He put down that epoxy floor with the sparkly stuff that goes in a garage. He's a good friend of mine. We live about 3 miles apart and he has a layout to die for...chuck

IIRC, he was printing out the floor and wall patterns, and gluing them in place. Looks really sharp!!
I really envy people like that because the footprint alone just to support the sheds and station would eat up about a quarter of my basement. I got into a discussion about this model with someone else, and we agreed that you could base an entire decent size layout around this structure, and all the supporting facilities (commissary, REA building, etc..).

Edit: It makes me think of those folks that build these steel operations layouts, especially now that there are Hulett (sp?) unloaders available now.

No question about it. The Walthers Station takes up a lot of space. I added a 4'x12' annex to my layout to build a passenger station facility that includes the station, two sheds, and vsrious buildings like the commissary and the REA building.

Re: Has anyone built and placed Walther's Milwaukee Station on their Layout?
Hi guys. Thanks for the mention of the guy in the archives. I missed that thread when I did a search for this station on the OLD forum format. So...Magnus, do you have any pics since '07? Anyone else who could post pics of this
station ON their layout so I can get a better idea of how it might look in various scenic scenarios that would be greatly appreciated.>PPP

Re: Has anyone built and placed Walther's Milwaukee Station on their Layout?
Sorry, can't seem to add this edit/addition: I'd love to see those interior detail results too! Just this afternoon I photocopied the parts/sprues onto cardstock so I can finally mock this building up to see if I have to saw it in half.
Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to find the room for the shed. Too bad, the iron work trusses are very nice.
I'm also trying to find exterior street/immediate neighborhood photos if anyone knows of a source. I've got some post card shots of the exterior of the station but not what's next door, across the street, etc. Thanks again!

Re: Has anyone built and placed Walther's Milwaukee Station on their Layout?
I've got the cardstock/photo copied mock up done and it looks GREAT in it's proposed location! My wife actually came into the train room (mostly still just bench work) and literally jumped up and down and clapped her hands in delight!>P If anyone knows of prototype
shots of the station's Milwaukee neighborhood or has a link for interior detailed versions please do post them?
Thanks everyone. This thread got me off my butt and building the mock up and reinspiring the whole project!

Wait. You made photocopies of all parts, and assembled the whole thing from paper to see how it looks first? Wow, that's what I call hardcore :)
