grades question

Exactly how much does a 2% percent grade go up by in a certain distance? Or in other words, how many feet does a 2% grade go up by per mile?

Re: grades question

2% is 2/100.  So a 2% grade goes up 2 units in 100 units.  2" in 100", 2 ft in 100 ft, 105.6 ft in 5280 ft.

Re: grades question

5280' = I mile, so a 1% grade would go up 52.8' per mile. Multiply that 52.8' by 2 for a 2% grade, by 3 for a 3% grade etc.
