Re: COFFEE POT #12 [October], for all to take a drink and chat. Welcome all posters. 4 yrs old and still going.

Aloha all. Back to work after our whirlwind visit to Tiffin, Ohio to visit the daughter. Took back her and two friends for a few days after offering to pay for their gas/tolls. They have a short break. Will take them to lunch if they make it into Chicago today. Great York reports! Great-looking trees, Charlie! Glad to see Perry - I love that SW look - and John too. Brutus, love that Thomas! Keeping up with Bob's 'scope also on the web. Don, need to see a photo of the El Camino; it's been too long. Jon, do you have any boxcars yet or are they still somewhere between Cali and Iowa?

Hello all ... thought I'd drop by to see all is well . Missed the York show once again ... in the spring maybe . Have been shopping for a new digital slr ... after a week of internet research ... found out Ritz camera in frederick has a better deal all the way around .... . Going with a Nikon D-5000 .... want that movie capability this time . Brutus ... don't know how you and the family handle all that worry and stress ... God bless you all bro ! Did'nt know those " grey " as they call them cameras on the internet and ebay cameras have a no-go warranty from Nikon !  VA doc said I'm in better shape than I've been in years ... gained about 30 lbs. ---- bad part had to go and buy all NEW jeans and pants as well as belts .... . Got the cab forwards out and lubed them .... man it was like my first love affair all over again ...   .

Charlie ... man those are some great looking trees buddy ! We still have our neighborhood Black Bear wandering around ... he has'nt eaten anyone YET .... no missing dogs or farm animals reported ... of course if I keep gaining weight ... an old fat geezer might look good to him .... ...

Fifedog .... good to seeya keeping that boat up ... I got lucky with my last boat ... had a camper water pump ... 12 volt ... I picked up at a yard sale and rigged it to pump the water .... nothing like a mouth full of nasty water in the mouth trying to siphon .... I always get a mouth full of gas or something trying that .. YUCK !!!!

Morning all,  Cool and sunny here.

Ole Timer, That sounds like a good choice in cameras.  I have a Nikon D40 which is a couple of years old and love it.  Of course it has no video function.

Brutus, Was Sir TopHam Hatt there?

Afternoon all from Southern Ohio

Charlie – nice trees!

Weekend wet way too fast.  I put in a new post asking for storage recommendations.  It looks like I have to give up the spare bedroom where the layout is as it is to become a full time bedroom again.  At this point I think they will be stored in the loft of my garage.  Any suggestions for storing / protecting the trains and accessories while in storage would be greatly appreciated.  The layout will be taken down and the shelves emptied of train stuff.

Time to get back to work

May God blessJim

Any way you can store these in a more climate-controlled area of the house?

Jim,

I am glad that Doug brought that up, because I totally forgot about mentioning that in my post. I'd look for other places to store them before putting them in a garge. The heat in the summer combined with the cold winters destroys trains.  I've seen more trains damaged like this than by rough play.

Random comments on a bright, crisp, sunny Mon. afternoon.

Ray - I love Bluegrass Music. Plan to try and see the "Rambling Ralph Show" next Sat.

Brutus - Your daily activity  is sounding a lot like the Chief's day.

Chief - You keep mentioning popcorn. Haven't had any for 4 years (diet you know). Had some last night, smothered in butter. You have me hooked again!

Dennis- Here in the country we unplug things at the least hint of a thunderstorm. Most vulnerable is the land line modem we use as a backup to the satellite internet access.

Don - No problem parking here on the farm. Lots of room. Park on the drive, in the barn yard, on the grass. However, one time I parked on the grass at the post office, and a state trooper ran in and asked the postmaster if he should do something about me. (What do you think fifey?)

SJ - Summer cottage? I have an abandoned pickup, worn out stock trailer and ''77 Pinto I can't see in the summer time. Do they qualify?

Ole Timer - How is that friendly Doctor of yours? Did your wife go with you when you went after new jeans and belts?

Jim - Having to take down and store a train layout is about like having to bury a good friend.

Ohioans - Is it true this is to be the new state motto?

Pat

Not a problem , Mr Lawson.  I simply need you to take a deep breath and blow (about 10 seconds) into this plastic tube.  Then you should be able to move your car.

Chief - My Hunter is pretty water tight, but we had so much rain with those twin Nor'easters.  My main problem is getting the bilge pump low enough to suck out that last bit of water. I actually use a turkey baster to get it completely dry, which keeps the boat smelling nice. What was remarkable was seeing how much bilge water was being pumped out of the newer-bigger boats last week at the show.  I mean, I kept thinking, "they're brand new...why so much water inside...?"

Wow Pat, a pickup, trailer and a Pinto put together would be a four star hotel.

Doug --

I did receive a box car about a week ago from Kauleeeforniaaaaahhhh (Kurt's very nice car) so maybe the artery clog has been unclogged, we'll see.  The clog is not in CA, it's somewhere before Don.  I'll get some pics taken this weekend and post 'em on Sunday, then I'll put the car in the mail next week.  Remember, patience is a virtue

Good Afternoon all!
Work was a easy day.  Came home early to take wife and kids out for a nice lunch...steak, YUM!  Went to Michaels this afternoon and picked up some items for the layout.  They have LEDs for floral arrangements that use two AA batteries.  I plan on using this for the new building.  Also picked up some other odds and ends that I hope to put to use real soon.  Got some stain as I had to strip and refinish six tables for the den.  Wife's family is coming next week and she wants the tables resurfaced as the kids have done everything from writing on them to using a hammer.  First coats are drying.  Once done, I will use steel wool and then do a second coat.

Ole Timer, I got the D90 and it is fantastic.  The digital image while using the video  takes some getting used to, but it is much more camera than I will grow into.  I suggest getting a good video that goes over all the bells and whistles as there is so much to learn.  Even though it has all that, it also has the Auto selections that will have you shooting photos in no time.  One suggestion, San Disk has come out with the Extreem III memory cards.  These are a lot faster and with a 8Gb card, you will have plenty of storage.  Also, the speed of the cards increases the speed of the cycle time for the camera.  If San Disk is still having the special, I got money cards back from them.  Always have an extra memory card in the case for  when you need it.

Have a good night,
Dennis

HI GYZ,

Good news for me and my MTH NS SD70.  I emailed the dealer who sold me the engine and told him my problem.  He emailed back to send it back up to him and he wouild send me a new one.  Depending if he has another one.  Pretty good.  I'm sending up to NH. tomorrow.

Had detention duty today after school with 16 churibs.

later,

laz57
